Alright, I want a respect thread for Tarene, and I don't know squat about makin' respect threads. So that puts us in a lil' dilemma here. I want it made, but it's not being made. How do I solve this? I'm gonna make it. Wow, that was simple enough.
So here's how it goes. For starters, Tarene isn't Asgardian at all. She's got no relationship with Thor's lineage whatsoever. She's just some random alien lady that Thor rescued from Thanos in a story arc that took place from Thor 22 to Thor 25. The reason Thanos wanted her in the first place was because she wasn't just "some random alien" but part of some prophetic key that was gonna end all life. You know, the kinda stuff Thanos lives for. Blah blah blah, big huge epic fight. Thor, even Firelord, vs the mad titan. Crazy explosions. Thanos whoopin' them like his grandkids, then Odin gives Thor some power up items, Thor's strong enough to beat Thanos, it ends, the universe is saved. Tarene thinks Thor is amazing. Typical damsel in distress having been saved by knight in shining armor kinda stuff.
Later on in the series, she came back as--well, Thor Girl. Yeah, she thought Thor was so cool she used her godly powers to make herself just like him. She coulda done anything she wanted, but no, she wanted to be just. like. Thor. I found it hilarious. Even made her own hammer. Let's see, this was issue 33. Yeah.
So with that outta the way, let's see what she's all about.
Her hammer, costume, and Thor-i-ness was completely made by her own power as the Designate. The power was so great that it shattered an energy field created by this dude called the Nullitor that was strong enough to stop Mjlonir in its tracks.
Why's he called Nullitor?
Oh, that's why.
Another hammer?
Oh, it's Thor Girl or Hammerette?
And she's mighty enough to handle herself.
She's also got some pretty good energy projection capabilities. Watch and see how she surprises the mighty Thor himself.
Stand Off
Have at Thee! "A blast mighty enough to topple a mountain range."
Definitely lights up the sky.
And she knocks Mr. T off his feet.
Not only does she have power in the energy department, but her power as the Designate seems to give her some form of higher mental senses. I don't wanna call it cosmic awareness, but from the looks of things, that's kinda what she makes it out to be.
"I sense things in people as though they were books open for my reading."
Not only that, but as the Designate, she can easily make herself look, and act as however she wants. When Thor asks her how, she simply answers:
"I am Tarene, the Designate, the Supreme."
Now that's all well and good, but lets see how she does in a real fight, and who better than to test her skills than a bloodlusted Gladiator from the future, who's currently trying to kill Thor?
Tarene gets in the way.
Gladiator knocks her down.
She gets back up.
Gladiator admits he's underestimated her.
Then he gets smart.
And Tarene gets mad.
And what's Thor got to say about it? "By the thousand threats of Ragnarök! Such power rivals e'en that of omnipotent Odin!" I'm pretty sure Gladiator's learned his lesson there.
So anyway, we now know that Tarene's got some major firepower as the Designate. Apparently it rivals that of Odin. Whether or not that's completely true, I'll leave up to you, but as for now, let's explore more of this Designate thing as it is. With her great power, she can not only inflict massive damage on whomever she desires, but also completely revitalize those who've been stricken down by heavy damage as well.
Thor's out of commission, and Asgard's best medics say that he's in no condition to fight against Surtur.
What's Tarene say to that?
Wake up!
And it's done. Just like that. Completely healed, like it wasn't nothin' at all. So we've seen her prove worthy of hangin' with the big boys, but what about the upper crust of the bunch? I'm talkin' big time, upper level, high level, boss battle, demons. You know, like Surtur?
Fighting alongside Thor and Odin.
And so the full power of the Designate is unleashed.
Magnifying Thor's power "a millionfold."
Combining her powers with Odin.
And bringing an end to the great beast.
And there you have it. Her power as the Designate was some serious ish. Sadly, after that fight, and after Ragnarök, her entire Designate thing went away, and after a little shout out in Secret Invasion, and then somehow getting lost on her way to Asgard during Siege, she has dropped off the map completely. It'd be nice to see her again. It really would, because she's a cool character. Now show Tarene some love, and help me come up with some battles she would be good in.
