Justice League #1 Writer: Geoff Johns Artist: Jim Lee This is it, the moment fans have been waiting for! Unless you've been living under a rock then you know this is the first issue of the new DCnU. Instead of doing a huge review I'm just going to point out the high points of the issue without spoiling it too much. Features: Hal Jordan, Batman, Superman & Vic Stone (who is not yet Cyborg) Locations: Gotham & Metropolis -This issue marks the first meeting of Hal & Bruce. -Hal appears really overconfident in the issue. He refers to himself in the 3rd person quite a bit as the Green Lantern. -Hal was unaware Bruce was without super powers. -Bruce scolds Hal quite a bit for his flashy entrance and being way too visible. When they journey together to Metropolis Hal flies them there using his ring to create a big ass green fighter jet. -Hal's constructs here are pretty rudimentary. -Vic Stone/Cyborg is still in high school and still completely human. -Bruce thinks Hal is full of bologna when Hal mentions the Green Lantern Corps. -This issue also marks the first time Hal & Bruce have met Superman. Hal is also surprised to find out he's an alien. Thoughts: I thought this was pretty good. It was definitely strange seeing them all in their "first ever" meeting. I enjoyed it and will definitely check out the next issue. 7/10

Yeah, that seems to be the general opinion. I'm not reading this because I have yet to read the issue.

I was the same when I read your Cowboys and Aliens review.
...at least I think it was that film.
I also agree with the score.

I don't want to say what he said, but the page where Hal and Bruce talk about super powers. That had me laughing on the train home.

I enjoyed a lot of it. Nothing really bad to say, but it should have been longer. If I were to pick at it.

Yeah, that seems strange since they're considered best friends. But I can accept that. I think back in Man of Steel, Superman was weakened a lot than what he is now. Because if it was the now Superman, Magpie wouldn't stand a chance. But I did like that Bruce saying he had a bomb on someone knowing Superman wouldn't do anything.

Thanks Crom. I enjoyed it for what it was. I expected it to be a retelling of the origin stories ao I didn't have a gripe about it. One of my few reservations is the inclusion of Cyborg but nothing I can do about it.

I think it's because we're going to see his car crash or whatever they use to make his what he'll be. Arthur is off in Atlantis. Diana is off in Themyscira. There is 2 out right away. Then you're introducing Batman, Green Lantern, Victor Stone (Cyborg) and Superman. Flash will be off in his Keystones. So it makes sense to me. Victor living in Metropolis and that's where it kicks off.

I got into comics through Johns' Teen Titans. Actually I got into by watching the animated series. Then moved to Johns' TT. And I loved them all. Including Cyborg. So that's why I don't mind him in the League. Or soon to be.

my lack of fandom is mostly due to not reading a lot of him.

I'm sure Zoom would suggest a good story arc for him.

I hear you on how it felt short but it was 40 pages. It was actually pretty long.

Maybe its the thing when you enjoy it, it feels short. But when it's boring it drags. Maybe?

Now that I've read it....I agree.
IMHO:
Pros: -Johns excells at the relationship between Hal and Bruce. Highly entertaining. -Lee's art is as good as expected. -Feels like a short read, but quite enjoyable. -A cliffhanger that makes anyone want to check out #2.
Cons: -Felt short/lackluster for the FIRST issue of the JLA. -We only (barely) met half the roster of the JLA. Would have been nice to have basic groundwork set for others, too.
I'd say a 7-7.5 seems fitting.
