I don't like scotch , tastes too licoricey , although when I'm about 50 I will ,regardless of taste, sit in a leather arm chair and smoke a cigar and drink scotch because it's cool.

@mr.Cob What brand of scotch tastes like licorice? It's supposed to taste like the barrel it was fermented in. Though all kinds of scotch have different subtle aftertastes. Try a nice single malt scotch like Glenfiddich, Glenlivet (French Reserve 15 year old is my favorite), or Macallan. I find blended scotches are too random and sometimes quite firey (instead of smooth). And ultimately the flavor isn't consistent because of the mixes.
My friend got a bottle of Johnny Walker Blue Label, literally the most expensive scotch you can get in a bottle shop. Retails for about $600 for the 1.75L bottle he got. Honestly? Black label was better ($40). The mix in the Blue Label scotch was one of the strangest I've ever tasted and not altogether smooth at all. I thought it tasted closer to rum than a fine scotch. I'd recommend a Glenlivet 12 year old, it's not very expensive, probably $30 or so. You'll taste the difference between that and a scrub mixed scotch immediately.

In other news, I'm drinking Iced Tea with a squeeze of lemon because I'm just that manly.

Your suggestions are all very good scotches. I was actually just drinking some Macallan 12 year aged a couple days ago. Glenfiddich is the first scotch that I really got into. Johnny Blue is $200 for a bottle, but no drink is worth that much to me. The highest I've had is Johnny Green Label which I bought a bottle of earlier this year. I thought it was pretty good. Haven't tried Gold or Blue, but I'm in no rush to do so. Mr. Cob- I haven't had a scotch that tastes like licorice, and I haven't seen any that do. If you are new to scotch, or drinking in general as it seems, then you may just be a bit confused with the taste as you haven't had anything similar to it before. Scotch, as best I can describe it, has an oak-y and smokey flavor.

Yeah, but can you beat $14 for a 30-pack? Yeah drinking water instead. Ouch. On a side note, Absolut Mango was one I left out in regards to your 'favorite Vodka' question. Are you a cognac fan, by any chance?

I don't personally drink a lot of cognac or brandy, but every now and then I'll have some cheap blackberry brandy, or some cognac like Courvosier.
You?

Yeah, Accord_Royal1738 is a tribute to one of my favorite cognacs: Remy Martin 1738 Accord Royal (VS). I'm a big Grand Marnier fan as well, preferably as a drink to pair with dessert. Unlike some of my friends, I'm not crazy over any Hennessy product. Henny VS or Henny Black are quality mixers, but leave a lot to be desired when drinking them straight-up. Remy Martin is by far the best of the 'big four' IMO.

Oh ok. Yeah Grand Marnier should go well with deserts with its sweeter orange taste. I think I may have had Remy once but I don't even remember. Not crazy about Hennessy either.

What really pisses me off in regards to Hennessy is their VS Black. It was the first product released in the U.S. by them in fifty years, and the hype was understandably off-the-roof as a result. They had a much-ballyhooed launch party in which numerous celebrities attented. So I buy a bottle of it one day (I think it was like $50), and was very disappointed. It was hardly an upgrade from their original VS. A good mixer, but not even close to being worth $50. For all the hype, and time to create a great cognac, they come out with a glorified mixer. What a joke.

I tried 15-year aged Glenfiddich for the first time yesterday (I anticipated it costing a lot more, taking its grade into account) at my friends. Gotta say, I was very impressed for someone who's never gone crazy over scotch before.
