Erik-El: You didn't think it was a good jumping on point? Just coming out of an arc, I think it did a good job showing readers the situation that the X-Men are in and how public perceives them.

It was clearly filler, but I didn't think it was that bad. I sort of enjoyed seeing a little bit different side of Magneto. I feel like it accomplished the .1 goal of introducing key characters, setting up the current situation and making it easy for new readers to jump-in. For me it was worth the $2.99.

Not really. All we see of the X-Men are they are willing to do some good for San Francisco, Kitty is back and Magneto is an X-Man. But that has been public knowledge for a while now. It did not explain the X-Men's situation on Utopia, nor anything else other than Magneto's need for some serious PR. But I would have given the review a bit higher of a mark personally. But like I said, I wave a pretty big Magneto banner.

Erik-El: More than willing because they want the public to see that they are truly heroes, which goes along with Magnetos need for PR, since the public still thinks he was responsible for what had happened. Also, as the photographer and PR lady land on Utopia, Emma scans them and Scott explains that it's just precaution because there are only so many mutants and that they're all living on the island. I think that's a good enough explanation of what's been going on.

I have faith that Gillen will do some good things. Maybe I was a bit harsh in my overall score.

Amended my score. I hope you did not do that on account of me. I was just being a Magneto fanboy lol.

Nah, I was a little bit harsh and a 3.5 made it sound terrible. In hindsight it wasn't that bad.

Erik-El: What more do they need to know though? All the mutants live on the island, they're not on good terms with the humans, really not on good terms considering the X-Men felt the need to mentally scan the measly few who came onto the island. I still feel that that scene did a good job of subtly laying down what the overall conflict is. Surely you can't tell them everything that has happened.

I got the same feeling from all the .1 titles though. When Marvel described the .1 issues, I was thinking that they would all be like giant recap pages but they are nothing like that. But I could be wrong. I just feel misled about the .1s as far as concept is concerned.

I agree they could do something like they did with the first issue of Herc. After the main issue they had an awesome recap at the end of everything thats been going on with him and it was nicely illustrated.
*tries to hide my bias for that comic*

Good review and it was a really good jumping point for me since i don't even read X-men i had no idea Magneto was on the team or a good guy now...and how Kitty was doing.
But I think I understand what your saying Erik....it feels like more of a new arc or (i assume filler for already readers) and a tiny bit of info on the people then a full on recap which .1s should have been

When the .1's were announced I honestly thought they would be recap issues as well with very little "new content" for current readers. Now that I know differently though I don't mind the different approach. I just think some of them have been executed poorly.

Exactly! These .1 issues feel like just regular one shots. Not that I really mind that because one shots are fun but I still think these are nothing like what I was led to believe they were.
Oh and I think it would be awesome if all one shots and minis were just numerical extensions of existing titles. That would make chronological searching and archiving so much easier.
