I was also happy to see Billy Tan on art. Hope he stays. It looks like he is staying for #9 and #10 and that Mark Brooks is coming on for #11.

Writer: Rick Remender Artist: Billy Tan Like last issue, this issue is also a stand alone story. As indicated by the cover, certain members of the X-Family have found out about X-Force and one of them wants to take advantage of their particular talents. We also see the fallout of Warren's actions last issue and how it's obviously affecting him. Personally, I had a few problems with this issue and since it's a stand alone story I wouldn't recommend it. I'm a big fan of the little things in comics and this issue starts off with a particularly noticeable flaw. On the opening page we see Utopia and the caption box says clearly "Utopia, 60 miles off the coast of San Francisco". You can also clearly see the Golden Gate bridge in the background. I guess Remender never studied geography. Another gripe of mine is the mission in the story. The target of the mission is shown in the beginning in a photograph that indicates who he was involved with. However, we never get the full story of what he did to the character in question and therefore I really have a hard time caring or wanting to see him get his just rewards. Fury Thoughts: Another stand alone story from Remender and it's not a particularly good one. I just couldn't get emotionally invested in it and there isn't much action either. I thought he did very well with the first 2 story arcs but the last 2 issues haven't been as good. 4.5/10 Recommendation to avoid.

*Uncanny X-Force #9 SPOILERS*
Another great and well stated review, Jake. While I agree the last 2 issues are not quite as good as the first 2 arcs, I do have to say that I would rate it higher than 4.5 though. For me I don't need to know what exactly the mark had done to Magneto (or his family) in the past to become emotionally invested in the story. Tan's art does a great job of conveying the emotion and internal struggle that Magneto is dealing with regarding this issue. It clearly must have been something atrocious. I also respect the fact that Wolverine handled the request the way he did but taking care of it himself, even after Fantomex offered to go along. It surely could not have been easy for Magneto to ask what he did of X-Force and the simple fact that he could not take care of this himself speaks volumes.
In any case, definitely a step-down from early stuff in Remender's UXF, but not by that much IMO.

I guess I just wanted to know what the guy had done to Magneto. I'll agree it was emotional as a reader but I'd be even more invested if I knew what this man had done to make Magneto a whimpering shell of himself.

Totally understandable. I guess I just took the perspective that it was so bad it didn't need to be spelled out.
