Issue 1 Writer: Jeff Parker Inker: Carlo Pagulayan Inker: Jason Paz If you aren't familiar with the Agents of Atlas, they're a team of 1950s Atlas Comics heroes who were brought together by Jimmy Woo, a former agent of SHIELD. The team includes Gorilla Man, Marvel Boy-Bob Grayson, Namora, Venus (cousin of Namor) and M-11, reprogrammed former killer robot. They operate under the premise of the Atlas Corporation, a criminal organization with holdings all over the world. The time period for this is when the X-Men first moved to Utopia and still occupied Graymalkin Industries in San Francisco. HAMMER is still a threat to the X-Men as they've posted guards around Graymalkin. Our story opens on Utopia and they're still making repairs to Magneto's former base. Dr. Nemesis is heading up most of the operation and the rest of the mutants are pitching in. We go to Graymalkin Industries and the Agents have snuck into the base. They're looking to steal Cerebro so they can track down their missing teammate Venus. Venus is in the hands of some of Aphrodite's minions because she thinks she's imitating her by using her name. Pixie is sent to Graymalkin to see if Madison Jeffries needs a break but he refuses and says he doesn't even want coffee. When Pixie reports back to Cyclops this strikes him as strange and he gets the Stepford Cuckoos to scan the island. They sense intruders and then realize Madison is unconscious and was being impersonated by Jimmy Woo. Wolverine recognizes them as Atlas (he engaged them previously in Avengers/Atlas) and wants some payback. Cloak teleports a team in and we get our first big throwdown of the issue. It's a good one and beautifully done by the art team. Storm, Emma, Cyclops, Logan and Colossus arrive to take them down. The two teams trade blows and both teams seem evenly matched. The agents take the advantage thanks to Marvel Boy's telepathy (Emma was stuck in diamond form and still harboring a sliver of the Void following the Dark Avengers arc). The Agents escape in Marvel Boy's flying saucer and head back to their base (the Hidden City of Atlas) beneath San Francisco. Cyclops wants Cloak to get them back to Utopia so they can track Cerebro. Beneath San Fran and the Agents are trying to get Cerebro hooked up to their equipment. At this moment, the X-Men arrive in the Hidden City with reinforcements galore. End of Issue One. This is only a two issue series but the opening issue is a fun one. In a lot of ways it feels like a throwback to an earlier age of comics. A misunderstanding between two teams and them squaring off instead of asking questions first. It's a fun issue and the art is great. He does a good job of capturing both teams. Parker keeps it simple but fun in this one. 7/10

X-Men vs Agents of Atlas Issue #2 Writer: Jeff Parker Artists: Carlos Pagulayan, Gabriel Hardman, Chris Samnee & Carlos Rodriguez Inkers: Jason Paz, Hardman, Samnee & Terry Pallot Issue 2 opens and we're in the midst of a huge battle between the X-Men and the Agents of Atlas (backed up by the Atlas Empire's minions). The X-Men want Cerebra back and both teams aren't willing to give an inch. The battle goes back and forth until Mr. Lao intercedes, who by the way is a huge dragon that dwells in the Hidden City. His attack is enough to tip the scales for Atlas until Namor arrives and demands both sides halt. Namor was tipped off by the Cuckoos who sensed the presence of another Atlantean hybrid (Namora). Both sides halt and Namor gets an explanation of whats going on. Emma realizes there is psychic energy at play and its causing everyone to believe they're back in the 1950s (The throwback art is beautiful by the way). back in the 50s and the two teams are still going at it. They realize things are wrong because Venus is with the team. They realize the psychic feedback is due to Professor Xavier scanning from Utopia and being pulled into the pysychic circuit by Marvel Boy. Bob says he couldn't use Cerebra and Professor X says he doesn't have the protocol to use it. We flashback to reality and Emma grants Marvel Boy access to the device. Using Cerebra he figures out what happened to her and exactly where she is. The two teams come to a peaceful agreement and Jimmy offers the services of Atlas if they ever need it. Godsmacked (Back up story with Venus) We go to the Adirondack Mountains and Venus is the prisoner of Aphrodite. She's branded by some of Aphrodite's minions (tramp stamp!) and then approached by a statue animated by Aphrodite's essence. Venus pleads with Aphrodite that she doesn't want to be worshipped and isn't trying to impersonate her. She explains her origin to Aphrodite and explains she was once a sea siren until a magician cast a spell on her and granted her a will of her own. She says that people assumed she was Aphrodite and she just went with it. Aphrodite tells her that the gods powers come from human worship and recently they've only become myths. The statue grows to enormous size and threatens her until her teammates arrive. They destroy the statue and head back to San Fran, Unknown to them they're being watched by the real Aphrodite and thanks to Venus being branded she can now track her anywhere. End of Issue 2 This is one heck of a fun little series. There's action to go around and some other fun things going on. The art is fantastic for the present day stuff, 1950 flashbacks and and the Venus back-up story. If you want a small sample of the Agents of Atlas I'd highly recommend it. 7.5/10 for the 2 issue run.

If you want to pick this up you can do so with the individual issues or the Agents Vs. TPB which includes this and the Agents of Atlas vs Avengers 4 issue mini.
If you don't know anything about them I'd suggest the first Agents trade.

Gorilla-Man is cool. It's nice to see him getting some more showings. Possible appearances in the battles forum?
