X-23 #7 "Songs Of The Orphan Child Part 4" Writer: Marjorie Liu Artist: Sana Takeda This issue felt more like one of the .One titles than the final installment of the Songs Of The Orphan Child arc. To be quite honest I thought the arc ended with the last issue and only picked this up because I feared I would miss something. Not to say its a completely bad issue but it felt disconnected from the most recent issues with Mr Sinister and Claudine. There's also a new artistic team for this issue and it just didn't appeal to me visually like issues 4-6. X-23 and Gambit are on their way to Madripoor to track down Malcolm Colcord and stop him from restarting the Weapon X program. Gambit agrees to help an old friend find a collleague for safe passage to Madripoor. He and Laura take on pirates and Laura even takes on some sharks. (No, I am not making that up) Needless to say they make short work of the pirates but can't save the man they were trying to help. All in all this didn't feel like the end of a story arc and it came across feeling like filler. I guess a letdown was expected after the recent string of strong issues. Up next for Laura is a confrontation with Daken in Collision. 4.5/10

Well stated. It definitely had a "one-shot" feel to me as well. Some decent action, but I think it's really just a lead-in to the Collision arc. I could not agree more on the art either, I was definitely wishing it was still Will Conrad drawing that book instead of Sana Takeda.

This might make me sound like a complete loon but I thought the old villain Tiger-Shark would have been a good choice for Laura & Gambit in this issue. No idea why.

You must have sharks on the brain after seeing Laura battle it out with them. LOL!

This issue was pointless. I did like the art however. I thought it had this ethereal feel to it that fill well with the ocean theme.

I completely agree that it was a total filler issue. Like they just threw that together while they were working on (hopefully) an actual story for the next issue.
That said, I still found it to be enjoyable to some degree. The art was better than average. Or perhaps the pencils were just average and the colors were better than average.

Collision begins here as Laura & Gambit arrive in Madripoor to locate Daken and shut down the Weapon X project. They find a city in a crisis situation following Daken's actions in his own series. The Good: Laura's character continues to develop here and Liu is bringing her along at a steady pace. This issue showcases a few of the little things that Liu continues to develop. Her and Gambit's relationship is also continuing to grow and he's turning into an excellent mentor for her. I had my reservations at the beginning but Liu has done a good job with Remy as well. This issue brings us some good action and the fight between Daken & Laura doesn't disappoint. The art is really good and does a bang up job of capturing the action and events taking place. The Bad: Nothing major to report. Overall: Issue 1 of Collision doesn't disappoint. 7/10 and I'm eager to see where it goes.

All things considered, Daken should beat X-23 pretty easily. Then again, he should have beaten Wolverine pretty easily as well but look how that turned out.

Eh, I can't say I expected Marjorie Liu writing the fight any differently. X-23 is her baby. Having Daken chop her head off would have been...counterproductive. The advanced preview for Daken # 8 indicated the fight would be a stalemate, anyway.
Daken biting X-23, though? Naughty.

LMAO at Daken biting.
Maybe Daken has a thing against using pheromones against Wolverine and by extension, X-23?

I can't even remember the last time he used pheromones on anyone during combat. It was more than likely against Spider-Man in the American Son storyarc.
I didn't like the way the fight portrayed both of them as bestial. There was no skill in their fight, merely raw instinct to take down the opposition. Both of them are actually very cerebral, both in combat and in their lives in general, and while they can be terribly brutal, they do utilize their fighting skills in their fights. I understand the audience wants a very bloody fight, but the writing put me off to it. I just thought Daken biting her neck was funny, is all.
