Armed. Dangerous. Incredible. Herc #1 Writers: Greg Pak & Fred van Lente Penciler: Neil Edwards Inker: Scott Hanna Colorer: Jesus Aburtov After the events of Chaos War, Hercules has been depowered and fully mortal for the first time in his life. In this debut issue, he may also be the most bad ass he's been in his entire life. The Good: to make up for his lost abilities Herc has turned to an assortment of lethal weapons of myth. From the armory of Ares he has bow and arrows, swords, shields and a few that will surprise you. He uses all of these with stunning accuracy and the opening sequence is bonafide jaw dropping bad assery. The rest of the issue focuses on him helping out a couple of other civilians and he's also hearing the prayers of an apparent group of followers that are worshipping him. This includes an animal sacrifice and another item that really appeals to Herc. We get to meet a group of Brooklyn residents that will also be a fixture in the first arc of the series. Like Hercules, they're Greek and he's more than willing to give them a hand. Finally we get a glimpse of whats to come. An old villain from Daredevil and Spiderman's past is mentioned and some of his operatives are trying to strong arm the Greek family that's helping out Hercules. We also get to see Herc take on one of Spidey's new villains in what should be an awesome fight in the next issue. Overall: Flawless first issue. I'm going the fully monty for this one. 10/10 for complete awesomeness. My only complaint is I have to wait a month for issue #2 to hit the stands!

......... Eh. Not a fan of Marvel's mythic stuff unless they appear in team books. (IE, Thor in Avengers).

Thanks for the review. I was not even aware of the series but after your review, I sure want to be.
Hercules losing his powers was a bit of a hard pill to swallow for me with Chaos War but you make the results seems really awesome.
Hercules vs street level threads are going to explode!

I like how Hercules is getting back to his mythic background of being a killing machine(It was hilarious to hear people fret over the fact he's a card carrying avenger killing people). To be fair, he gave them fair warning. =)

I like how Hercules is getting back to his mythic background of being a killing machine he still has a long way to go before he reaches mythic hercules in murderous rampage killing.

I haven't really been following comics closely in a while, but when I saw the cover art for this series I was intrigued. After this review and the knowledge that Herc isn't a God right now (O:) I think I'm going to have to pick this book up.
