Batman #708 "Judgement On Gotham Part 1"
Writer: David Hine
Artist: Guillem March
Batman (Grayson), Red Robin and Catwoman team up to take down Azrael and the Crusader who are working for one of Batman's deadliest foes. Azrael and Crusader are on a holy mission to find one righteous man or woman in Gotham or the city is going to burn.
The Good:
This is a new twist for me as a Batman fan as he's taking on some threats of the supernatural variety. Grayson was recently stabbed by Azrael's sword of sin and he's having a hard time dealing with the fact that it affected him. He's also been having strange memories due to the sword's influence on him of beating a redheaded kid in a circus to death. There are some strong religious references from the Old Testament in this comic but they fit in well with Azrael and The Crusader. I like the addition of Tim Drake as well. I haven't seen much of Selina and Grayson together so I'm looking forward to seeing their relationship develop in this arc. The art by Guiller March is a bit unusual but very good for the story in terms of visuals. We also see who's pulling the strings of Azrael & Crusader and if you've read Azrael lately you won't be surprised.
The Bad:
Nada.
Overall:
7.5/10
I'm not an expert on Bat-History but this issue has me hooked to see where this story goes. I like seeing Grayson doing something different with the religious overtones instead of the usual random crime lord wants to take over Gotham. Good stuff all around this one and I highly recommend it.
To be continued in Red Robin #22!
