Falling down a shaft because Darth Vader betrayed you to save his son>Falling down a shaft because you let Obi-Wan escape a no-win situation.

Worst comparison to determine the worthiness of a character. Despite Return of the Jedi being the least favored by fans for the original trilogy, it is still LEAGUES above any of the prequels in terms of...Well, virtually everything except for special effects, lol.

Which includes writing. You don't hate Maul for his death, you facepalm at the writing.

That's like hating Peter Parker for the events of OMD. You don't see people bashing Parker, but the man behind those decisions

To be fair now, Palpatine was awesome in prequels as well. But yeah. Imagine how good the prequels could have been if Lucas had actual writers write the damn thing. Also, I think CGI caries part of the blame for the prequels "failure".

I'm just saying the sfx was the one thing in the prequels that was technically superior to the originals, simply just because we have better tech now. It's hardly a compliment, lol.

Which includes writing. You don't hate Maul for his death, you facepalm at the writing. That's kinda the thing. There is nothing to make me like Maul in the first place for me to not hate him for his death. The problem is that CGI severely limited the actors at the expense of the setting, simply because they didn't have a set to interact with. I can't say for PM since It's been a while, but if you rewatch AOTC and ROTS, something like 70% of non action scenes consist of characters talking, sitting down, talking, standing up, talking, walking slowly and talking at the time. The pattern is amazingly obvious and repetitive once you notice it. Why? Because they don't have a bigass set anymore. They have a small blue screen and that's the best way they can utilize the limited space. This takes away on the atmosphere when Anakin and Mace Windu are going to arrest Palpatine while strolling leisurely because they can't speed up or they'll walk of the bloody screen. IMO if they actually tried to do it the old fashioned way, the outcome would have been at least mildly better.

Palpatine has actually said that Vader's killing him was his own fault. At least there is a little redemption on his part. Maul is just screwed. Honestly, I think the prequel movies lessened some of Sidious' awesomeness though. He was interesting as a villain in the movies but not as much as in the books. (But then again, everything is better in the books.) Maul is a bad@$$ because he looks cool in a fight. The same applies to Vader. Palpatine is a bad@$$ the way Doctor Doom is: when his grand scheme is finally realized, he has his moment. Naga Sadow is the same way. Both strategically manipulated their enemies like chess pieces, made it look easy, and then sat on their thrones and were like, "Yeah, I'm awesome." Sidious and Sadow = Awesome prep masters and actually have notable character attributes. So no more of this "Bore-stine" nonsense. He actually has more character depth than is shown in the movies. Maul is great and all, but Phantom has a point about their being more interesting Sith. Sadow, Bane, Sidious, Kun, Vader. They are more intriguing in terms of character portrayal.
