I see it as a construct of the suit. If that is true, the thickness of the armor does not matter at all, just the energy powering it.

Yeah, but at least that's clearly identifiable as a shield. This is clearly identifiable as painted skin.

IDK, I'm probably nitpicking here but otherworldly be damned, the audience is still human, and if you're making something to be armor, at least make it feel like an armor.

They can do that easily. When he gets hit, an explosion of sparks or energy can fly from the suit. Kind of like the movie Spawn. The green energy thing whenever he was struck.

InnerVenom speaks truth. It was a terrible movie. But the energy sparks thing from it was the only real life movie I could think of. You can probably youtube a fight scene from the movie to see what I am talking about.
