Warner Bros. is planning an adaptation of the comic book series Rex Mundi, says a story at The Hollywood Reporter. Writers Brian Klugman and Lee Sternthal have been brought aboard the project, which will be produced by Johnny Depp and his company, Infinitum Nihil. The series, which ran for 38 issues between 2003 and 2009 (1-18 and a zero issue at Image and, subsequently, an additional 1-19 at Dark Horse), tells of an alternate 1930's in which the Catholic Church still holds primary political power over a feudalistic world and in which a murder mystery is played against a search for the Holy Grail. Though a script by Jim Uhls has been in development for sometime, the arrival of Klugman and Sternthal marks a bit of a coincidence. The pair contributed to the story for TRON Legacy and that film's director, Joseph Kosinski, is now planning his followup feature, Horizons, co-created by Rex Mundi comic book author, Arvid Nelson. There is no word yet on how quickly the studio wants to move with Rex Mundi or any information as to whether or not Depp might be interested in starring as well.

I wonder if Depp is a fan of the series. I haven't read it but it sounds interesting enough and if they get Depp to star then I'll definitely see it.

If they do this right it could be an absolutely awesome movie, just like the comic is. But they'll likely fail and rape it...
