Hey guys, this morning a Twitter user ( Ash Harper) posted an image of himself and actor Tom Hardy to give us all the first Dark Knight Rises on set photo! Hardy (pictured right) is set to play the popular villain Bane in Nolan's upcoming Batman film The Dark Knight Rises. I think many of us have been wondering how Bane will be portrayed in the Nolan-verse I think this image can rest a few fears about his appearance at least. He's looking quite buff and even looks pretty similar to Bane in the face there. The only concern for me is his significant height difference from the character. Bane is stated to be 6'8" whilst according to IMDB, Tom Hardy is around 5'10". What do you guys think about Tom Hardy? A good fit for Bane or an uncharacteristically bad casting choice for the next Batman? If you are not already a member, Sign Up! to join the community and take part in the discussion! Thankfully, I never had any issues with Hardy being cast as Bane. We've seen him bulk up for other roles and he's a solid actor. The only concern is he's shorter than Bale, so Bane wouldn't be very intimidating in that case. But I'm sure movie magic will fix that.

That said, I'm VERY excited for this movie.

I'm totally amped, as I have been for all of the new Batman films. I think Tom Hardy honestly looks like Bane more than I expected from seeing Inception. His height is the only thing I could question. I mean unless the guy next to him is a giant (which is possible) he might be a little short for the role. I mean Bane is supposed to be 6'8" off memory. So he should tower over Batman. IMDB says Tom Hardy is 5'10" so that is a significant difference.

Looking at Hardy, he looks like he's going to be a pretty brutal fit for Bane. I was concerned at first given his general, uh, prettiness. But without the hair he looks like a straight up hard ass.

Seriously, even if this movie is half as good as BB/TDK, I'll still be smiling like a fanboy from ear to ear if Bane is treated with respect...And knowing Nolan's work with Joker and Ra's, I can count on it.

They're going to have to pull off a lot of movie magic for this one.

I think it'll be good. I haven't walked into a Nolan film and walked out disappointed. Even less so with his Batman titles.
I think we all have something really fantastic to look forward to. There are so many awesome Bane stories for him to draw upon, I don't think it'll fall short.

I don't see why it isn't possible. Hell, Lord of the Rings thrived on that.

I'm talking about making Hardy look believable as Bane, especially next to Bale who is several inches taller than him, plus the bat-ears, not the story.

My LotR remark applied to you (about how they use sfx the whole time for hobbits and such). The other quote was to Dane. ....I knew you were drunk! lol

I can definitely picture him as Bane (think they'll go for a bald look instead for his regular haircut, K4tz?) and while stature is an important aspect for a character like Bane, I'd rather have an actor who somewhat looks the part, and most importantly, who can act the part, than have someone who is perfectly tailored physically but cannot act to save his life.

I agree, I'm just saying that it's really going to take some movie magic since Hardy is much smaller than Bane and even Christian Bale. Who really knows what look they are going for, though. But I'm sure they will make him look large and imposing and it will end up well.
Always a possibility. Lol.
