Moon Knight #1 Writer: Brian Michael Bendis Artist: Alex Maleev ************SPOILERS************ Our story opens in Los Angeles, California and we find out what Marc Spector is up to right off the bat. He's the creator and producer of a new tv show called "The Legend of Khonshu". n case you're wondering, its a tv show based on Moon Knight's origin with Bushman and Marlene's father. We see Marc mingling at a premiere party when he gets a phone call and is summoned to the roof. He goes to the roof and finds Captain America, Wolverine and Spider-Man. Cap informs him there's been quite a bit of criminal activity in LA lately and they want him to investigate. He takes them up on their offer and swings into action as his alter ego, Moon Knight. We go to the city docks and a couple of typical criminal goons are waiting for a pickup. A ship arrives and its carrying none other than Mr. Hyde. Mr. Hyde is expecting some money to be delivered and the goons are just expecting to make a pick up. They make the mistake of pulling their guns and Mr Hyde reacts just like you'd expect. He roughs up the goons until Moon Knight intervenes and takes him on. Not surprisingly Mr. Hyde easily tosses MK into the ocean, removing him from the battle for a moment. The goons resurface and this gives MK time to make his way back to the ship. On board he finds out what Mr Hyde was transporting and it's an Ultron robot.Mr Hyde's boss then makes an appearance (he isn't revealed) and it's someone with telekinesis or gravity control because he's floating in the sky and lifts the boat into the air. The ship gets obliterated and MK is tossed into the ocean below. MK manages to recover the head of the Ultron unit and he's at undisclosed location talking to Cap, Logan and Spidey again. They discuss the evening's events and what exactly the criminals are planning to do with an Ultron that doesn't work. We go to the final page and the three Avengers disappear. They've all been figments of Moon Knight's imagination or fractured psyche. Fury Thoughts: Call me a lunatic but I enjoyed this. If you're not a fan of Maleev's art I'd probably avoid this. It's definitely an acquired taste. It had some good action with Marc taking on Mr. Hyde and the mystery villain has me interested. I'll definitely give issue #2 a shot. 6.5/10

.......So he's now hallucinating on a regular basis?....
(but he did in the 2006 run!)
No, Khonshu has been proven to be real.

Also, I never thought I'd see the day where even the word 'Ultron' was used in a Moon Knight comic, lol.

As someone who read and enjoyed his 2006, what do you think about the changes to the character?

Well, I wanted to read VOTKM before this but I decided not to wait. (Of course it came in the mail today-figures) I'd rather read the first arc before making a rush judgment. I'd like to give Bendis a chance to explain his mental state before I give up on the book. I thought it was a pretty decent comic with a nice story so far.

How would you feel if he didn't explain the mental state and just went with the assumption casual readers thought he was crazy?

It'd be an insult to my intelligence. If he doesn't offer some sort of explanation I'll drop it.

Thanks Drizzt. I usually try not to be so thorough but I felt this issue deserved it.

LOL IV....you still not giving it a chance? First I read the preview pages posted here weeks ago. Then today I read a spoiler-filled review to grasp the plot. Then at the shop I looked through it. Didn't buy it - never will. Marc might as well be a cartoon character in a mental aslyum muttering. "GOOOOD JOB MOOOOOOOOONEEEY YOU DID USSOOOOOO PROOOUD...."

He explained Sentry, with retcons. Convoluted, biblical retcons that were also never explained.

That was the Void. Sentry was retconned as being a junkie.

And it's just a coincidence that the three people MK thinks he is just happen to be Marvel's three most popular and high-selling characters?
