Filming officially began today in Jodhpur, India on Christopher Nolan's third Batman film, The Dark Knight Rises and, thanks to local scoopers, the first bits of information have started to trickle out from the set. Most intriguing is the below shot of a "pool" of green screen. Fan speculation has already started, suggesting that the pool could be related to Ra's al Ghul's Lazarus Pit. In the comics, the character bathes in a mystic pool with rejuvenatory properties. The green color of the "pool" in the photo is almost certainly so that it can be replaced in post-production with a special effect of some kind. Meanwhile, posters at The Dark Knight Rises Community have spotted Josh Pence on-set in Jodhpur, suggesting that, Lazarus Pit or not, al Ghul will certainly be featured in the scenes in India. Starring Christian Bale, Michael Caine, Gary Oldman, Morgan Freeman, Tom Hardy, Anne Hathaway, Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Marion Cotillard, Juno Temple, Josh Pence, Daniel Sunjata and Nestor Carbonell, The Dark Knight Rises hits theaters on July 20, 2012.

I will bet dollar to dime it is not the Lazurus Pit. Nolan's Batman universe is too grounded in real life to go that route.

I will bet dollar to dime it is not the Lazurus Pit. if it is a lazarus pit, it likely won't work like in the Comics. Maybe Ras survived the fall of the train.

It is a pit of Venom that Bane rolls around in which grants him super powers.

I loved Ra's to bits in the first film, yet I am unsure if a return (presuming the scene isn't a flashback) would be reasonable at this point. But what the heck, if this means a guest appearance from the impeccable Liam Neeson, sign me in.

They've already cast the person playing Ra's. Josh Pence. I don't know the significance of his role in the film. But he's been cast as Young Ra's al Ghul. So maybe his "soul" will be transferred into the young guy. Or it could be a flashback of him. Loads of reasons.

I know, hence why I said "presuming the scene is not a flashback". The whole metaphysical aspect of the Lazarus Pit seems out of place in Nolan's Batman to me, though. But, we'll see.

erik I just told you what it is, don't you listen? Oh right. I think your assumption is far more likely than the Lazurus Pit.
