here is the best wing chun fighter i seen so far outside of movies fighting a kickboxer but for some reason the kick boxer isnt using kicks that much. I think the black kid has incredible hand eye coordination and reaction reflex obviously he is the wing chun fighter.
this doesnt mean that Wing Chun is the better martial art just that this kid is exceptional fighter.

The most effective MA are the simple and basic techniques with no flash Like Ryu from street fighter. It should be simple and direct from breaking to maiming a person. jumping kicks, spin kicks should not be the focus of any self defense MA. Some members have jokingly used the Tiger Claw technique which is a surprise kick to the nuts that is one of the best moves a person can use. I think for the most part you can strip down 90% of a MA style and take 10% of what is left over and make you a competent fighter of course size, speed, strength are a factor as well But that doesnt mean you cant beat someone who is stronger, faster and bigger then you b/c surprise also plays a big factor in self defense. i have never really taken any Japanese nor Chinese MA but i have learned overlapping attacks and exercises from Korean, Tae Kwon Do, Kick Boxing, american Boxing, wrestling and Mcmap. I think one of the main focus MA's should focus on is body hardening and strength, it wont do you any good to be fast as Bruce Lee if you hit as hard as limp noodle or break as easily as dry spaghetti. I think personally that MA's in its full form is more spiritual than physical so you can gain spiritual growth in whatever style you choice to take either Chinese or Japanese MA. I'd have to agree with all of this. The most effective fighter makes it simple and natural. The reason why in most MA you practice Katas over and over is to make the moves second nature. The idea is to try and make the responses autonomic. One of the best fighters I know studied a little of a few martial arts (highest grade was a green belt), he's a boxer and kick boxer. He's defeated state and other national champions in his weight division and higher in the ring in kick boxing and was employed by one former world bantam weight kick boxing champion as his sparing partner. When he's competed in national martial arts championships he's defeated many black belts or 2nd and 3rd Dan's in fights. the total irony is he always get's disqualified in these contests (he just doesn't know how to fight semi contact for long, and invariably ends up going to far once he's had a few bouts and knocks some poor bastard out

I'm a huge fan of Muay Thai The guy in the white trunks would have been me in many of those tournaments I mentioned. Except since there wasn't any gloves and throws as well, aside from the puffy swollen face and closed up eye picture a shitload of blood streaming down my face, and some pretty big bruises to the upper body (as if I didn't look ugly enough without the hiding).

Damn. I think it's Youtube. yes, that what it says when I try it. Managed to watch the second video thought. Very interesting, sounds like a very brutal and hard style judging from what I'm seeing.

If you're looking for a martial art with pratical real world uses I highly recommend , Krav Maga, If you're looking for competitive MMA arts don't look into it, but its the martial art of the israeli army , it teaches techniques for disarming armed opponents and countering suprise attacks , which is far more useful on the street and in real-life scenarios tha the usual martial art, it's designed to be as efficient and brutal as possible , I'm an amateur boxer and someone from my gym knows Krav Maga and has taught me a few things (nothing for the ring but still useful and interesting) it's really efficient ,by simultaeously executing offensive and defensive strikes it doesn't let your opponent recover.Another way it promotes efficiency is neutralising your enemy with an unbroken stream of attacks which keeps you safe. It teaches a variety of techniques to protect against gun, knife and basically any other melee weapon. Probably my favorite martial art.

If I may inquire: I am actually looking for a good martial art. But not all suit me.
1. My knees are bad. I would prefer something that focuses on punching, grappling, etc. instead of kicking. I fence, yes, but in an actual fight I won't have knee braces.
2. I have a loss of peripheral in both eyes from past retinal detachments. Right eye is worse, but there is a dark spot in both. I would need something that would teach me to protect those areas instinctively rather than relying on sight alone.
I have considered Wing Chun, since it seems to focus on defense, fast punches, and smooth transitions from defense to offense. But I wouldn't mind an opinion or two.

If you have bad knee's grappling may not be your thing. I recommend wing chun or just good old fashioned boxing

From what i know, i recommend wing chun as well. It's pretty simple as fighting style but it can be very effective in combat since it's about attack speed and good defense.

Look up Flash Point and Return of Chen Zhen. The latter features Donnie Yen doing a rather good Bruce Lee imitation.
