From what I remember this was happening mostly in the first Kanto gym leaders like Brock and Misty.

He started losing to gym leaders later on. He needed second tries.

It is something I noticed. When Ash is battling for a badge or something like this, the plot of the episode is that a girl has a problem with something and they help her.

Probably he has a very sore ear by now. But what I was telling you about was happening a lot in the older seasons as well. But to fair sometimes they helped boys.
