With Pokemon, it depends on what we're basing the battles off of. Games, movies, manga, trading card game (lol), etc.

Indeed. I was thinking films since it was what the conversation originated from, but manga would do fine, too. One battle for each.

That would be interesting. The manga usually isn't a linear plot, just different stories. I believe both Pokemon make appearances though, I'd have to check.

I've read Mewtwo's appearances in the manga, but not Lugia's. Mewtwo does help Red beat Deoxys, though. (I'm not accustomed to Deoxys and its multiple forms but it is supposed to be a beast from what I read)

I believe so. Mewtwo came in on his own as back-up, IIRC.
