All stems from poor writing. I can only partially agree with that. Directors have sometimes made a movie completely different than its original script because they are the ones controlling the making of the film (editors aside). They just do not have to strictly adhere to the script. Plus directors are in completely control of the quality of acting for each shot.

Directors play a massive part for sure, but not all are directly involved with creating or altering the script. Some are heavily involved, or actually write it, but I wold have to imagine most directors hired by studios for big stupid shitty 'block busters' don't have much say about it. Unless they are told to rewrite it, or have a part in the rewriting or editing process.

I just hope whoever makes the next movie learns about making the pacing work. That was the major thing that killed the first one for me.
