It's obviously a case by case basis, but yes, most street level combatants are rather agile in comparison to regular humans, considering most regularly travel on rooftops and even bullet dodge. Is there ever an explanation, other than martial art abilities? Being a martial artist does not necessarily mean you can do what they do. Usually it's explained through intense training regimens, acrobatic knowledge and skill, natural agility, physical acumen, etc.

I don't see why it should be difficult to believe that they can do it. You can find dozens of videos on Youtube of normal people performing feats every bit as impressive as those. All you need to make a parkour video is some pretty good agility and core body strength, and enough balls to try it. Since so many normal people can do things like that, I don't see why comic characters with extensive martial arts and physical training shouldn't be able to perform even better feats.

Not to mention that the percentage of street level heroes compared to the population of America (for example) is extremely small. They are heroes because they are better than everyone else, so IMO it is not a stretch to believe they are capable of most shit they do (aside from bullet dodging which I find ridiculous).

Err... so what is the difference/are the differences between Parkour and free running? Maybe just an absence of the acrobatics in the latter?

According to wikipedia, Parkour emphasizes efficiency while free running emphasizes freedom of movement and flashy acrobatics.

I guess it would be an advantage to have Parkour/free running as a skill if you are a street level guy who maybe cant afford the grapple guns like Bruce, or web shooters. I think just about every street level guy I've read can do both at a very basic level at least. Well, except maybe Punisher... Though I would't doubt he could do some Parkour

I have no doubt it would be an advantage to any hero who wants to trot around an urban environment. Batman included, despite my previous comments.
