I do not see how this could possibly be good. It will be just like Spawn in quality except maybe better CGI. Darkness is better in every way to Spawn as a series. Not that they'll be able to demonstrate this to the mass public with such a poor producer making decisions I agree that it is, though I do not see too much appeal in it myself. But really there are two ways that movie can possibly be made. One is the crap quality that was Spawn, there total acting nightmare. Or the other is to be pretty near close to the comic, which would be nearly as bad because the shit that goes on in the comic just cannot be done well in real life. You cannot say the things or have some of the characters from the comic in the movie. It would just look and sound childish.

Ok lets relax a second, Spawn was made in the late 90's.
Darkness could be done with great CGI but with the studio who did the SFX on Green Lantern.
Roasted!
Get ILM or Weta on the job.
Regardless, it won't be a block buster what so ever for several reasons.

I am not talking about Spawn's CGI. That was actually the only thing I do not bash given its production date.... Even though it still seemed behind the times in that department.

I didn't mean the CGI.
It was made in 1997 and I feel that was just too early for any good comic book movie. Blade was good and was made in 1998, Blade 2 in 2002. I wasn't a fan of X-Men in the early 2000's, but Spider-Man really turned the tide in the early to mid 2000's. There were a lot of shit comic book movies during that period, but it was only until recently (last 5 years or so) where I feel comic book movies really started to be made correctly.
My point is that a Darkness movie would have this advantage. Comic book movies are being taken much more seriously as of late, which would work very well in its advantage, as opposed to Spawn back in 1997.

Well I personally think the Blade movies were shit. I agree that generally speaking, comic book movies did not start getting good until recently though. But really, hearing one of his little minions talking will instantly make the show seem like Transformers 2 in dialogue quality.

I can't comment on minions or whatever because I've never read it.
Regarding Blade....I check Rotten Tomatoes often...and I've been checking the Blade pages because I've seen them on HBO recently...and I see you pop up on the pages with your score...generally unfavorable.

What I liked about the Darkness game is that the minions didn't really say much unless you paid attention to it. So, if they had the minions just working in the background but rarely ever onscreen then they could just have the reactions of Jackie and various other characters to their hi-jinx. That could work to mitigate any potential ridiculousness of the minions without cutting them out.

It depends. During his volume 1, they were saying and doing lots of things, from teasing random chicks to wielding lightsabers (not kidding). In more recent years, the chatter has decreased. In fact, instead of large numbers of small creatures, Jackie is much more likely to summon beasts of great size. In a film that is supposed to have quality, I figure the latter would be much more preferable than the former. The Darklings are too clown-ish for their own good.

I'd suggest either early trades of volume 1 (the first storyarc was written by Garth Ennis, after all), or the entire volume 3, which is far and away the most consistent in terms of quality (and very good in its own right). Don't bother with Jenkins' volume 2.

Case and point First Born.
