If you merged McAdams' Morning Glory and Sherlock Holmes characters, you'd get Lois Lane.

Too bad about the wait, but I don't have a problem with it really.

I don't know why people complain about lens flares. Because they were effing annoying? J. J. Abrams seems to think so as well, he's promised to cut down on it for the next film.

I do not think he found them annoying at all. He is the one that put them in there lol. I think he is merely catering to the loud majority.

I thought they added an aspect of realism to the film. People act like they were searchlights burned right into their retinas.

But I suppose if a movie is just too awesome in literally every aspect, the hardcore fans of the franchise have to nitpick about something.

Honestly, especially for a film set in outer space, where I'm sure cosmic type flares would happen all the time, it makes sense, and seems more realistic.

It was a visual effect he liked, so he used it. Some people enjoy it, some people thought it was overdone. Case closed.

I am sure the counter-argument to that is that there were flares even on the bridge. Well so what? Everything on that ship almost had a mirror shine to it. In real life, you would likely experience a flash of light hitting you in the eye as you walk about the bridge.

Trying to justify it doesn't make much sense to me. It's a visual choice he made as a director because he liked it and felt it fit with the film. Hell, he even used it a few times in Super 8 when they were in a generic house. But, perhaps that was also the USS Enterprise in disguise

At the end of the day you either like it or you don't. No one side is going to change the opinions of the other.
Wait, how the flark did a conversation on Superman (with Snyder and Nolan) turn into a discussion on the use of lens flares in Star Trek, by JJ?

That will teach those whiners! Also Super 8 had to use flares because wallpaper and wooden cupboards are damn reflective.

The movie will need one of those warnings before games about motion sickness and such.

I guess people don't ever have light catch them in the eye. It's only me and erik.
It happened because, well....idk. There's not a whole lot to talk about with Superman:MOS right now lol. Either that or JJ's magical powers.

The movie will need one of those warnings before games about motion sickness and such. WARNING: May cause seizures. Speaking of seizures.... When I saw Iron Man 1 in theaters for the second time way back when, a guy had some kind of seizure during the Iraq war scene at the beginning of the film because he was an Iraq war vet or whatever. His wife freaked out and it was a mess. The movie kept rolling and the lights came on for the paramedics. The theater did not reimburse anyone for the movie nor would they at least rewind the film. Buncha assholes.

The basic reasoning behind a flare is obvious. Trying to dive into and elaborate on something that he used a good deal solely because he thought it looked good is just a waste of effort, imho. Hell, I even remember the interview about it. He said it was easy to pull off and he loved the way it looked, so he used it every chance he could. At the end of the day it's that simple. Like it or don't, but it's by no means deserving of derailing the fuck out of this thread, lol.
If we're going to talk about directors and their preferences, let's dive into Snyder (since he's behind this movie)and his love for fast/slow motion. Plus, Nolan's role as producer.
Buuuuut, a discussion thread for specific directors would definitely be cool if someone wants to make it.
