But I suppose if a movie is just too awesome in literally every aspect, the hardcore fans of the franchise have to nitpick about something. There are plenty of things you can nitpick about the Star Trek movie. Flares are a minor issue about it. Nobody is acting like it burned their retinas. We're acting like it was overdone. Which it was. It didn't ruin my experience of the movie or anything, but if an effect if used to the point where you begin to notice the effect rather than the scene it's supposed to enhance, odds are the effect shouldn't be there.

I never even noticed it until people pointed it out. Therefore it should be there because it helped with my movie immersion.
