I have never read the Vertigo version but enjoyed the first trade of the DCnU. It's pretty bizarre for a mainstream comic these days. Lemire (the author) has a very popular Vertigo series called Sweet Tooth.

I thought so. I don't think I've ever heard you give your opinion on him as a writer.

Morisson? He goes from awesome to O.K depending on the actual effort and creativity he puts in a piece of writing

Back on topic, the new DCnU series focuses on Buddy's daughter Maxine during the first arc. She begins to develops powers and they discover the true nature of Buddy's abilities along the way.

Yes. It's basically the connection all living things have to the morphogenetic field that Buddy draws his powers from. Lemire does some pretty solid work on it.

then you have The Green (connection to plant life-this has been one of the main points for Swamp Thing) and the Rot (decay/death).

I still have some of the original Swamp Thing issues. I think reading something that off the wall as a kid permanently broke my brain.
On topic, New 52 Swamp Thing and Animal Man are stellar. I actually like the characters and I never gave two shits about them before.

Same here. I've seen complaints that the Rot story is dragging but I'm liking it quite a bit.
