Marvel is introducing "point one" issues for its biggest characters. They say this will be a great starting point for new readers, and enjoyable to long-time fans. So, what do you guys think? Is this an honest effort to rake in more readers, or just try to gain more attention to the big names before their movies are released? Interesting idea, but very easy to screw up.
And with Marvel's track record the last couple years, screwing up is a very major possibility.

Ehh,... Sounds like a Gimmick to me, but I guess they'll serve their purpose. Not sure if new incoming readers will understand the whole .1 thing though, or even know to look for them. New host for the symbiote though? This better be good. Don't fail me Marvel.

The whole thing isn't any different than publishing a one-shot for each and every one of of those characters/teams. Instead of publishing two issues in a single month (on ASM's case, 3 in one month) that could distract readers and writers alike in the middle of actual on-going storylines, they use those "one-shots" yet they label them with a .1 to illustrate the immediate connection to the on-goings (prompting regular readers to buy them, too) and also point out that they happen at about the same time frame as the issues that precede them, while also setting up the scene for future stories. It's gimmicky, but it isn't a bad idea, either.

I ended Broken Trinity (+ the tie-ins, including BT: Witchblade in which they kiss again) and I'm a a couple of issues before Darkness # 75 (to which I look very much forward to, based on the amazing cover and the standalone plot of Jackie conquering the world), so I'll get to see any developments soon enough. |
