I am now, finally, caught back up on ASM. Took me a few weeks due to a clusterfucked schedule. ;D
Smythe was epic. . . did anyone else feel that after one brief glint of Gargan's intelligence, that Slott went back to the dumbass version?

Gargan's intelligence, that Slott went back to the dumbass version? Yup, same with his threat level, too.

Can't blame him. He's been written that way for years now.

I highly disagree with that. Spidey had to sacrifice his best power in order to beat Scorpion. I think this is enough to let us know how big threat he was. =]

I think this is enough to let us know how big threat he was. =] Gargan noticing an obvious device attached to Spider-man's risk, remarking "SHINY THING IMPORTANT, MUST SMASH", and then smashing it with his badass tail, does not an intelligence feat make.

I felt that he defeated him quite easy. I mean I know he was enraged but with one punch? Granted I have not been reading the title for such a long time and I could be wrong about the power levels. Btw did you guys see the previews in 654.1? Was that Mary Jane with powers?

I think this is enough to let us know how big threat he was. =] He didn't sacrifice his spider sense to beat Scorpion. He did it because the insect army would overrun his allies over the entire city. In fact, he did not intend to "sacrifice" anything, his plan just went wrong and he decided to go with it, anyway.
Spider-Man one-shotted Scorpion while being in as bad a condition as he was.
Threat level = fail.
The upgraded Smythe did far better.

Even though it's F4 (or, rather, FF) related, I thought I'd post it here since the preview is Spidey heavy.

I like how most users in CV were calling Sue a cougar because of this lol And I prefer the black variant of the costume more.

I thought that was merely Mysterio's cool smoke effect.

The upgraded Smythe did far better.Exactly my point. Why did spidey lose his best power? Because his plan went wrong. Who was responsible for his plan to go wrong? Scorpion was. And he was able to spoil it because he was smart enough to realize that spidey was planning something. Also, i don't think we can say that his threat level was fail, since he barely appeared in the comics. He barely fought spider-man and the fight lasted too little because spidey was forced to use his weapon. We did not have time to see how much better scorpion get because of what happened. So we still don't know how good he was. Added to all these, i would not say he was one shotted. He seemed to me like he was still awaken, but he was webbed in the ground.

And most likely it is only from Mysterio since I don't see a gas of any kind emanating from her body. Btw Rhino looks cool there. Is there a crossover planned between Spider-Man and Avengers Academy?

Eh, no, Smythe was. Since, you know, he was the mastermind behind everything that prompted Spider-Man to go under such extreme measures to begin with, and he unleashed Gargan on Spider-Man on that rooftop. Gargan was an obstacle, at the right place at the right time. You don't have to be some huge threat to do what Gargan did. His threat level is not determined by luck, but, rather his ability to be a challenge to Spider-Man in single combat, which he did not prove he can provide.
Losing in one shot is the very definition of fail. But feel free to start a Gargan respect thread and post him losing in one shot by Spider-Man as his high end feat.

My bad, he will appear in AA: Giant size, and the Academy will appear in two ASM issues, all these scheduled to happened in the same month.
