Make a list(s) of your favorite characters! Heroes and/or villains.
Feel free to make separate lists for different company's, but don't forget to make a combined list as well.
Please try to limit to around a Top 10. Also, feel free to explain any choices!
For me, it is tough to rank them since I like them all pretty equally and are all great characters but: 1) Thor-always been a fan and I like everything about him, I have some Norse in me as well 2) Iron Fist-another blond brother like me. Love the martial arts and mysticism aspects 3) Nova-general bad ass, love his personality, cool powers
Honorable mentions: 4) Silver Surfer-very interesting character with an awesome power set 5) Wolverine (although I haven't read any of his stuff in a while), childhood memories, short bad ass don't fuck with me or I'll fuck you up kinda guy, ferocious feral side
Now you!

Quite the selective one..I don't think I can make a top 5.. Changed it to 10 or so. I realize 3 or 5 is probably too small for most of the people here.

@silver @spidey
Nice lists, some great characters. Like seeing Iron Fist on there. I have a feeling a certain few heroes are going to be very popular on these lists.

1. Superman: He's an icon. I never had a father figure to look up to myself, or any one I respected and naturally through comics he became that figure. Someone I could aspire to be, personally. I think it's worked. I feel it's worked. I would not have gotten awards for nicest guy at college if it wasn't for him. I don't think I can say any more that you don't already know. He's the symbol of hope and that's what I have a lot of.
2. Captain Marvel/Billy Batson: What's not to like? A boy that keeps his innocents and with this gains the powers the gods with a single phrase. What I like about him is that he always does the right thing and he looks up to Superman like I do. I remember in JLA #1 where the Trinity are discussing who they want in the JLA and the first person they want in is Captain Marvel. Diana says to Bruce that he only wants him on the team because "he's easy to control". In Superman's captions he denies Diana's statement. He also says "Bruce loves control, but in this case...he wants the Captain because he's good. Not just a good fighter. Truly Good. And on a Dark Knight a little light always makes you fell better." I always loved that.
3. Tim Drake: The person I feel that always gets underestimated by villains and at times heroes. Then that's when slaps you on the head with his awesomeness. I always got underestimated, well through my life then I do the same. He uses his head to solve things instead of resorting to violence. That's what I tend to do.
4. Kyle Rayner: Learning from mistakes as also being a thing I've always done. And I don't think you can describe a better person for this statement than him. Creativity is a huge thing for me. I have a lot of it and I think I see a similar type of creativeness in Kyle. He's easily the best character among the the Green Lanterns. Guy comes in second.
5. Beast Boy/Garfield Logan: I got into comics through 2 sources. One being Dragonball Z and the other being the Teen Titans television show. An obviously BB was my favourite in that. Which lead me to read Teen Titans comics by Johns. I loved his comedic elements. His quirkiness in times of peril. Same with me, I tend to cut tension through jokes. He has a big impact on my comic readings of the Teen Titans, for instance when he left I only stung onto it through Tim and then when he left I left the series. All my favourite characters from it just seem to vanish when Johns did. Tim, BB, Raven, Superboy, Bart. I only read it for them.
All these characters appeal to me because something in them relates to me in some form or another others are who I want to be.

These are not necessarily in order.
1. Nightcrawler He has a power set that I would love to have, and I can relate to his character a lot. Also, since I am both a Christian and a major fan of the X-Men, it's natural that I am drawn to the one X-Man who is consistantly protrayed to have a strong religious background.
2. Toad I guess you could say Comicvine made me a fan of Toad. For a while I knew a few things about him, but didn't really care about him much. Then all the bias against him on CV gave me several opportunities to defend him when everyone else was disrespecting him. Before I knew it, I was Comicvine's go-to guy for Toad respect.
3. Captain America Patriotic to the bone, spectacular feats and fighting skills, totally bada$$ while staying a total good guy at the same time. What's not to love?
4. Wolverine When you want to read about a charcter who is deep and interesting, read Wolverine. When you want to read a good old-fashioned bada$$ fight, read Wolverine.
5. Cyclops Again, being a major X-Men fan, I've always looked up to Cyclops. Yeah, he's a boy scout sometimes, but he makes boy scout look good.
6. Spider-Man I don't even need an explanation here. Really.
7. Batman Pretty much the same reasons as Wolverine. AND BECAUSE HE IS THE G**D*** BATMAN.
8. Hawkeye Cocky and sarcastic, but with the skills and awesomeness to back it up. Uses archaic weaponry to better effect than most people use modern weaponry. Sick skills and feats. You gotta love him.
9. Gambit I f**king love his powers and attitude. Just wish he'd stop swaying between good and bad all the time.
10. Colossus He's been the backbone of the X-Men for years, and hardly gets any credit for it. Also, strangely, he's pretty much the only mega strong guy the X-Men usually have.

I'm going to limit myself to one Lantern, Guardian, Flash..etc. for the DC guys, although I love people like Jade and John around the same level as my other favorites/honorable mentions. If it was up to me, I'd include most of the GLC and original Oans. I just want a more diverse list.
DC List[/u]
1) Kyle Rayner - I don't even have to explain. I'm pretty sure that people here know my feelings towards Monsieur Torchbearer.
2) Ganthet - When I first read a comic, it was a Kyle's first issue. I saw Ganthet and was kind of lost. I liked his ponytail and I thought he was really really smart. I found out in later years, that he was around semi-omniscient. Besides that, I always loved him. He is by far the greatest Guardian ever to me, and his relationship/trust with Kyle is awesome. He's also the most powerful Guardian, not just being an original Oan, but being the wielder of the powers of all the Guardians that were slain before him, post-Hand of God.
3) Wally West - I knew the Flash before I got into comics. I first picked up a Wally West story, the same time I bought Kyle's first appearance. He was in the same boat as Kyle. Trying to live up to the legacy left behind by his predecessor, Barry. He was hilarious when I first read him, and along with Kyle and Dick, I can relate to him very well.
4) Superman - A worldwide icon/hero. "Somewhere, in our darkest night, we made up the story of a man who will never let us down."
5) Batman - One of my childhood heroes like most on this list. He's a human and his determination is something else. His motives, his promise to his dead parents, his drive, his darkness, his nonexistent sense of humor actually being his sense of humor..I can go on. He's the first superhero to prove to me that superpowers are overrated.
6) J'onn J'onzz - The soul of the JLA. He's an awesome character. I really loved the story with him and Kyle, when they were comparing the aspects of both of them being the sole survivors of their respective races at the time (Green Martian and Green Lantern). He's always there for his teammates and has a heart as big as his devotion to the League.
7) Dick Grayson - I've always liked Grayson since he was Robin. His Nightwing persona was awesome and that's when I took him way more seriously as a character. I was able to better understand his character, hardships, love life, personality etc. He's just awesome.
8) Cassandra Cain - My favorite female DC character. I've collected every story with her since I read her first appearance. She's a terrific character, and although I think Barbara portrays Batgirl the best, I think Cassandra remade Batgirl into a more serious/respected role.
9) Vril Dox - Oh man. If you've ever talked to me about Vril Dox or R.E.B.E.L.S., you'd know how much of a fanboy I am of him. He's always calm, he's manipulative, highly intelligent, and one of the greatest schemers/planners/strategists/manipulators in comics. Someone who managed to get Despero's head off his body into a little containment tube, led and took down galactic empires, as well as mocking Starro's mispronunciation of a word, literally in front of his face when everyone thought he was going to die, then ending up taking out Starro with his plan as well, deserves credit. That, and he barely used up any time formulating plans for both instances. He's a badass, period and an underrated leader for some reason.
10) Johnny Sorrow - A silent film actor. One of the greatest villains ever. He's tragic, is an awesome planner, can get people to view his ideologies similarly and recruit them, and he looks awesome.
Honorable mentions to Diana, Jason Rusch, Querl Dox, Supergirl, Tim Drake, Richard Dragon, Booster Gold, Ted Kord, Metron, Darkseid, Zoom, Shiva, Superboy, Black Adam, Cyborg, Beast Boy, Mr. Miracle, M. Terrific, Adam Strange, Captain Comet, Nix Uotan, Jack Knight, Commissioner Gordon, Barbara Gordon, Tommy Monaghan, Earth-22 Superman, Two-Face, Deathstroke..etc.

Cyclone Comics list 1. Dark Nebula - just a powerhouse with an unusual character for a comic hero when he got p@# off someone or something knew about it
2. Jackaroo - Jack Keegan is greatest power was his tenacity. he could get his but well untruly kicked by a an opponent and just keep getting up for more licks until the enemy tired and he handed them their @$$. He was completely relentless often tracking, chasing enemies across the country, never stopped until he won. When he came acroa a better fighter of more numbers he just kept coming until he wittled them down to a chewable size.
3. Dingo - a werewolf with two possible origins. 1 his ancestors were cursed by another gypsy clan. 2. his parents were used in genetic experiments by the 3rd Reich. Loved the unusual nature of this hero in the Southern Squadron team. He often went a little overboard in his feral state (somewhat denying certain villains civil liberties as would normally not be tolerated by a government operative). It did however make for really easy interrogations, like the time a terrorist had to spend several months recovering from the wounds Dingo inflicted in bringing him in. The squad tried conventional interrogation for all of an hour, before thy left the room while Costas "dingoed up". They hadn't even reached the door before the big tough terrorist was singing like a canary.
Dc List 1. Alan Scot - loved the look and the character ever since I first saw him on the cover of the very first comic I ever personally bought. I'd read comics for quite a few years before that (tweens) that my neighbor had loaned.
2. Dr Fate - Loved magic in general and as a huge fan of JSA Fate has always been a fav'
3. Johnny Quick- used to be Jay but changed to JQ during All Star Squadron. I think I just learned at that point I like my speedster to be as fast with the temper and the assumptions as they are on their feet.
4. Green Arrow _ thanks mainly to the Grell era. That was when IMHO GA was really good
rest of the top ten rounded out by Booster Gold, Deadshot, Obsidian, Star Girl, Cyborg and Starman (Will Peyton was always my fav Jack Knight and Ted next). The order often changes
Marvel
1.Daredevil
2.Iron Fist
3. Longshot
4. Dr Strange
5. Damion Hellstrom
6. Nighthawk (4 to 7 should give away the fact that I was a BIG Defenders fanboy)
7. Moondragon
8. Thor
9. Black Panther
10.Shaman
Forge puck and Snowbird narrowly miss out.
MLJ/Red Circle/ Blue Ribbon
1. Black Hood - Thomas "Kip" Burland the nephew of teh original BH was a big fav' of mine. Loved the bike and his weapons
2. Shield -was like a cross between Captain America and the retconned Hourman (light ray gave him his powers originally but wearing his suit was the catalyst. Without his Shield uniform he was only slightly enhanced (stronger, healed faster, faster than peak human). With it he was bullet proof and could throw tanks around.
3. Jaguar - MLJ's Superman equivalent
4. Comet - the character started out great (especially the look in his black costume with Cyclops type visor). When they changed his look into a flying rainbow I just couldn't bare to read anymore.
OVERAL 1. Alan Scot 2 Dr Fate 3. Dark Nebula (2 and 3 often swap depending on mood 4. Daredevil 5. Black Hood 6 Iron Fist 7. Green Arrow 8. Jackaroo (7 & 8 also interchanable) 9. Longshot 10. Shield

Some great and interesting lists guys. I like the effort you all put into them. Look forward to more lists! If anyone has trouble making a top 10 overall go ahead and make some lists for separate publishers as well.

6. Bart Allen: Is humour at times is like Beast Boys, he always had a combo comedy team up with him. I always loved that. He's my fastest dude alive. He has the potential to be the greatest Flash alive.
7. Conner Kent: He reminds me of one of my best friends. His attitude on life. We're a team, me/Robin and him/Superboy.
8. Connor Hawke: I think he's an amazing fighter. All that ability and he's still an innocent really. He's truly a good person.
9. Bruce Wayne: What can I say...he's Batman! The best humanity has to offer, and imagine the entire human race like Batman. No one will be special or smart, but together we'll be awesome!
10. Zatanna: The first time I saw her I was in love. He costume is awesome and she's awesome to boost. Her and Batman had there ups and downs but after they got over it they had there funny moments through Detective Comics. 10. Guy Gardner: Now this is a character I used to hate. Now he's in my top 10. Through his friendship with Kyle and his willingness to sacrifice a lot and his sense of humour is pretty good. Especially against Bats.
Honourable mentions: Richard Dragon, Doctor Fate, Spectre, Martian Manhunter, Madame Xanadu, Karate Kid, Dick Grayson, Black Canary, Cassandra Cain, Lady Shiva, Kilowog, Sodam Yat and Captain Comet.
Villains 1. : Doomsday 2. : Brainiac 3. : Superman-Prime 4. : Black Adam 5. : Zoom 6. : Sinestro 7. : Darkseid 8. : Killer Croc 9. : Scarecrow 10. : Poison Ivy

Marvel List[/u]
1) Silver Surfer - The first story I've read of Norrin Radd, was Requiem. I loved everything about Surfer from that one story. From there, I got some other trades like In Thy Name and Homecoming, and eventually started collecting back issues of the Cosmic Wanderer. "Even in failure there can be nobility! But failing to try brings only shame!"
2) Spider-Man - A true hero. He may not be the most powerful superhero but he gives it all to protect the people around him, even if they don't want it. I've liked Spidey since I was a youngin'. When I was younger, I actually thought his story was believable and that in the future, the incident that gave birth to the Wall Crawler, could happen to me too. Then came science...
3) Magneto - A really deep character. His powers are awesome. His reasons for who he is, what he chooses to do, his back story. Just everything about him is likable for me.
4) Nate Grey/Cyclops (tie) - My first tie on the list. I like them both equally. I could relate with Nate growing up and I always preferred him over Cable. Him and J'onn have always been my favorite telepaths. I didn't like Cyclops a whole lot as a kid, but I didn't hate him. The more I read with him, the more I liked him. He was the greatest leader to me growing up and he's still somewhere at the top for me. He's the perfect embodiment of Xavier's dream.
5) Daredevil - One of the first Marvel characters I read. I first read him after one of my friends (we were young) said that he would beat Batman. Back then, that was a pretty big claim, so the next time I went to the LCS, I picked up issues from 220-230 of Daredevil, around the time Frank Miller was writing him. I read them and I couldn't stop. He was a really tragic character and was really interesting to read. I went back to the LCS the next day, and picked up the later issues. I collected the trade of it a few years back (Born Again). "And I - I have shown him... that a man without hope is a man without fear."
6) Steve Rogers - Steve embodies what America should stand for perfectly. Even though he has a strong relationship to his country, he's a worldwide icon. To me, him and Superman are the icons of their respective publishers.
7) Adam Warlock/Magus (tie) - These 2 are perfect opposites. Warlock's character development since his first appearance is great. I loved how he tried to find his purpose in life (which I think a lot of people can relate to) and his metamorphosis is really cool. Him and Magus are also two of the coolest looking characters IMO. Now Magus is evil, but he's also a great character on a philosophical level. One of the greatest planners in comics, and overall, just an awesome villain. I dropped Thanos Imperative midway, but I heard what Mar-Vell did to him..kind of disappointed with that.
8) Black Panther (T'Challa)/Iron Fist (Danny Rand) (tie)- I got into Black Panther recently. I started with Christopher Priest's run. T'Challa was an awesome character for me off the bat. Much like I do with other characters, I started collecting some back issues with him, which made me love the character more. Iron Fist was a character I got into in the past few years. I really like martial artists like him, involving chi and all of that. The Immortal Iron Fist is a terrific series.
9) Dr. Doom/Reed Richards (tie) - One of, if not, the greatest rivalry in comics. Both intellectually brilliant. I got into Fantastic 4 after I saw Human Torch. I thought he was really cool, but after reading some Fantastic 4 stories, Reed was easily my favorite of the group. He always has a plan, you can always count on him, sometimes his work led to depression and self-hatred, but he was always there for those who needed him. Doom is just one of the greatest villains ever. I don't know anyone who dislikes him, and for good reason. His back story and feud with Reed is classic and he always pulls the strings.
10) Marquis of Death (Clyde Wyncham) - He was a great villain for me personally and one of my favorites. It's a shame how he's no longer alive, but when he was, he was a serious threat, but that really was a high point for Doom. His dedication to his craft, as well as his ruthlessness (though I'm not usually a fan of ruthless characters) and intelligence is great.
Honorable mentions: Thor (Classic era), Nova (Rider), Tony Starks, Wolverine, Beast, Xorn, Bishop, Cable, Nightcrawler, Gambit, Genis-Vell, Invisible Woman..etc.

Badass list. In many ways mirrors my own.
...Or, it would, if I had one.
PS - Surprised to see Daredevil there. I did not know you enjoyed the character, but he truly is great, with a consistently impeccably written on-going.

Aha, thanks. What do you think of Marquis of Death? I haven't talked to a lot of people about him.
Agreed, Daredevil is one of the most consistent characters in terms of stories.
