Brightest Day discussion thread. Since this is DC's primary event series at the moment, it only seems fitting to have a thread about it.

BD started out slow as HELL, but seems to be picking up a bit. Out of all the BD books, I still enjoy Generation Lost best.

Phantom Stargrave: Admittedly, I have yet to read all the tie-ins. For the most part, I have just been following the main series. But I agree that it started out slow. By and large, the only story lines I like are the Firestorm and Deadman developments.

@silver - For me, it's Aquaman and Martian Manhunter. Hawks were boring as hell until recently, I didn't care much about Firestorm until it actually started hitting the fan for them, and Deadman... Deadman was okay. Am I missing anyone?

Phantom Stargrave: At the beginning, I was thoroughly enjoying the development made for the Martian, but Brightest Day #15 and 12 (or was it 13?) were what revealed where the direction was actually headed. And honestly, I really dislike what is being done. I absolutely hated Brightest Day #15. The Hawks are boring; I agree with that. The new Aqualad story is interesting though. Maybe you forgot Hawk and Dove, but their storyline is interconnected with Deadman's. So I just consider it one story.

I haven't read #15 (Or #14 for that matter) So I can't comment on it.
Hawk and Dove's story seems to be primarily taking place in Birds of Prey. They only seem to be supporting cast for Deadman in BD. I don't really recall anything important happening to them in the main book so far.

Phantom Stargrave: Brightest Day #14 was a good issue. It did have a level of importance for Deadman and Dove.

Random make outs abound.
Despite Giffen leaving Winnick in charge of Generation Lost, I still like it and it is still one of the only DC books that I'm actually paying money for these days.

And the protector has been revealed........seriously? It took 23 -24 issues and that's who it is?

I was reading Brightest Day for Firestorm and Martian Manhunter, for the most part, but their stories just derailed into nonsense. Firestorm's just made no sense, and the Manhunter's derailed his character. Out of all of the individual character story arcs, I liked Aquaman's the best. The rest, I either could care less about or disliked. :-\
And Brightest Day #23 did nothing to help the nonsensical direction of this arc.

I couldn't agree more Silver. Personally, I felt like all of the stories started out well but the endings left quite a bit to be desired. I also didn't like the fact that Deadman was explored so wonderfully in the beginning and then nearly completely forgotten until the final few issues.

The main villain was completely out of left field.
Which is a shame, because I think he could really work in relation to BN and BD.

The main villain was completely out of left field. Which is a shame, because I think he could really work in relation to BN and BD. Exactly. We had this huge tension building for 22 issues straight where everyone just kept asking, "Dude, what in the world is the White Lantern entity doing?" and then we end up with BD #23.... 1) Why was this not introduced sooner, and 2) this is what we were left in the dark for? @jake: I agree completely.

Another weak point and gripe I have is the format of the series. I think they could have taken a page from the way 52 was presented and include a little on each character in every issue.
Another format that I think could have worked would be to give Manhunter, Aquaman, The Hawks and others each a short Brightest Day titled mini. The way they presented it annoyed me due to the fact that the characters were each given arcs and then basically forgotten.

Read the main Brightest Day issues yesterday. It wasn't bad although what they did to Deadman and Shiera was very unfair.

Geoff Johns has done the unforgivable, what he has done to Swamp Thing has earned him the rightful hate of fans forever.

...What has he done to Swamp Thing? raped him... No shit Sherlock. How did he do that? Generally to rape a character you need to do something wildly against the established continuity of the character. BD, as far as I'm aware, hasn't done that, simply because ST was barely there. Having ST there was stupid from the story's perspective, no doubt, but it wasn't exactly nonsensical from the character's point of view.
