Disclaimer: I am aware that it is an oddity, or even a contradiction to begin a thread about the Avengers with an image of the JLA, but I haven't gone mad just yet, so bear with me here.
Back in 1997, after several years of low sales on what should rightfully be one of their flagship titles, DC asked Grant Morrison ("God" would prompt people to think DC executives fell on their knees towards Mekka's direction) to revamp the title, and so he did, in style, along with artist Howard Porter, producing classic storylines such as New World Order, American Dreams, and Rock of Ages. Credit for the formation for that particular incarnation of the League goes to writers Fabian Nicieza, and Mark Waid, with their 3 issue "Justice League: A midsummer's nightmare", which preceded that JLA volume by a few months.
The initial roster for the opening storyline brought every superstar hero onboard: Superman, Batman, Wonder Woman, the Martian Manhunter, the Flash, Green Lantern, and Aquaman, later on joined by new recruits - Zauriel, and Plastic Man.
Now, I am aware the Avengers do not suffer from low sales (on the contrary), but under the hypothesis that Marvel would indeed ask the mad Scotchman scribe to do the same thing for World's Mightiest Heroes, how do you think it would turn out?
Which characters do you think he'd choose? Who could be his artist/partner in crime ideal? Do you think it could work? Moreover, would you buy the book? +=
?

As far as how it would turn out..I don't know Morrison is a wildcard to me.I don't ever know how something he writes is going to turn out.Like Bendis he's off and on with me.I think if he was writing Avengers he would at least use all the characters in some way.
I think this is the roster he would choose.....
1.Super Soldier 2.Iron Man 3.Thor 4.Quicksilver 5.The Wasp 6.The Vision 7.Spider-Man 8.Ms.Marvel
The artist that I think he'd choose to work on this with him is Ed Benes.Or better yet that's who I think he should choose.I think Morrison's writing and Benes art has some chemistry.I can't really explain why but that's what i'm picturing.
I think it could work if Morrison wrote Avengers.i think if you have 3 different Avengers books they should be written by 3 different writers.I wouldn't mind seeing him write New or the regular Avengers.I think he would be best for regular Avengers. He probably would have chosen a better roster and gave some character we haven't seen much from in a while some much needed face time.I mean Quicksilver was just in Mighty Avengers but he needs to do something and Ms.Marvel should be an Avenger over Spider-Woman.It's too late,Bendis already ruined her Avengers appearances with that Queen Veranke nonsense.

I think the reason Morrison is difficult to predict is that he usually plans so many steps ahead when he commits himself to a project. So many plot points that appear random or nonsensical at first can only be explained by reading in depth, and behind the lines. He also demands attention from the reader, he doesn't "force-feed" things to him/her. It's a mutual process. Sometimes it works, others it doesn't, but it's interesting, all the same.
By Wasp, do you mean Janet, or Hank? Other than that the roster seems like something I could see him using. Except, maybe, Spider-Man. He's Marvel's flagship character, so in a way he could be there, but otherwise, I don't think he would add much to the team aside from wise-cracks (which Clint Barton could likely produce, too).
I don't know how long it's been since Spider Woman had any actual character development. Considering the issue that focused on her is a fabrication of Verankee's mind it's been a while since she's done anything at all to make us care about her, or her motivation.
I like the idea of Ms Marvel being in the core Avengers team, though. See, the Avengers are supposed to deal with things no on else could, or would even think of tackling. You don't need Spider Woman, or Spider-Man for that. Take a look at the roster of the JLA from Morrison's volume. Not only is the team comprised of DC's most celebrated characters, they are some of the most powerful heavy hitters you'd think of, in either company. In that respect, Ms Marvel is a necessity, she's probably the most powerful female superhero on Marvel Earth at this point. The only street level character in that JLA team was Batman, and that can be explained due to the fact that he's the master planner, his physical disadvantages in comparison to the others are indeed covered by the fact that his intellect is off the charts. The Captain America/Steve and Iron Man combo covers that angle, so finding a good chemistry between a powerhouse team would be all that would be needed.

I figure he'd add an Eternal, like Ikaris or Makkari, simply on the basis of having been created by Jack Kirby.

LOL, I never read the follow-up to Gaiman's Eternals (it's your fault! your and sloth's! ), so I presumed he actually got depowered. Hey, I never said the run itself was bad, I said the ending was bad (and I stand by that with all my might). But yeah, I recall Makkari making a run from NY to Antarctica in, like, a couple of minutes. That's not exactly Mach one territory. Pay attention, Greg Pak and whoever else was writing the handbook.

Actually Anthony Flamini (Whoever the hell that is) was the head writer. Pak, Van Lente and Paul Cornell were consultants.

I think Morrison could do a great job given at least a 2 year run.

I agree that his work would benefit greatly if he was to be given nigh unlimited time to pursue the plot points of his choosing, same way he did with JLA, NXM, or, currently, Batman.

I've read Mighty Avengers, I know he's the Wasp, but I haven't followed Avengers Academy, and one pic shows him in his Ant-Man costume so I thought maybe he had changed his name again.
As for Janet - being dead isn't exactly an irreparable condition in comics. ;D
Well, that's what I'm thinking though. In an all powerhouse Avengers team + Steve Rogers as field leader/tactician, why would they realistically need Spider-Man for, besides his personality, and the variety/publicity he would bring to the book?

I think he'll mix members that you never see with characters you always see. Marvel will know people will buy it even if they don't read Marvel because of the name on the title says Morrison. I may even read it.
