Captain America series reviews will be done here.
Captain America 613
Ed Brubaker - Story
Jackson Butch Guice - Penciler
Stefano Gaudiano - Inker
Elizabeth Breitweiser - Colorist
This issue is very story driven. Not a whole lot of action happens in it but there is some killing to be had within. It is mostly investigation, planning, courtroom posturing, Bucky's jail life and a brief bit of nasty business with Sin or now, the Red Skull.
Rogers plans to help Bicky's defense with Dr. Faustus as a defense witness. Dr. Faustus is a bit of an expert villain on brain-washing and hypnosis.
We do get to see a disturbing dream with Sin. That girl has some severe daddy issues to put it mildly. We also get a short courtroom scene that is not exactly going Bucky's way due to Sin's nefarious plans taking effect.
Bucky just cannot seem to catch a break in this issue. I will be surprised to find out next issue if Sin's plan even works. I will not spoil what her plan is but I do think that legally speaking, it is pretty shaky.
We do get to see Falcon show us his moves. I just want to hear it one time, "Falcon punch!" One time ever and I will be able to die happy. Master Man does a bit better though as he tears through quite a few baddies at a certain place for the second part of Sin's plan.
The issue felt a little on the shorter side even though it was 22 pages of just the main issue. But it made up for that with a mini issue of Nomad. Only 8 pages but it was pretty intense. I got a treat in that it had Black Widow handling 6 guards at the same time, unfortunately off panel for you debaters seeking scans. But I was really satisfied with the Nomad mini. The art could have been less wonky but it is a mini after all.
While we are on the subject of art, the main issue has some really nice art from Guice. Guice has a certain style. I do not know what it is that I like so much about the art, but I do like it a lot.
Overall I think this is a pretty solid issue. I say that as a man that just started the series on this issue so you know it is coming from someone who is currently not caught up on the series. I give it a 9 out of 10. Only because I felt it was short. Let me rephrase that, it was a really quick read spread out over many pages. But Nomad did give us a little extra as well.
I wanted to post a list of characters included so here it is:
Bernadette Rosenthal - Defense Lawyer
Blake Tower - Prosecutor
Bucky Barnes - Captain America
Master Man
Natalia Romanova - Black Widow
Rikki Barnes - Nomad
Samuel Wilson - Falcon
Sharron Carter - Agent 13
Sinthia Schmidt - Sin/Red Skull
Steve Rogers
