So, it's finally happened. Just as we all knew it would, Carnage is making his return to the Marvel Universe... or should I say Marvel Earth? I'm pretty sure he was still in the Marvel Universe (As a floating mass of dead... mass... stuff, but you get my point).
You know, the description of this book describes Carnage as a 'fan-favorite', and I obviously agree. It's as if Marvel was admitting that even they knew it was only a matter of time.
Now, onto the review proper.
~THE GOOD~ (Insert angelic choir here)
Clayton Craine. I had a love/hate vibe going on with his art in 'VENOM VS CARNAGE'**, but that is gone. Gone I say. It all just works so perfectly. Iron Man's armor looks fluid and magnificent, Spidey's costume has a quality that's hard to describe. Its how the eyes are designed, I think. It just fits him. A certain evil clone looks freakish and eery (unlike previous appearances, where he just looked kinda... .goofy.)
The story is interesting enough to draw you in, I don't wanna spoil much, but its kinda an "In Media Res" (in the middle of things) feel. There are new characters with a power set that's oddly... symbiotic.
~THE BAD~ (insert evil satanic theme from 'THE OMEN' here)
Well, frankly, I don't like how a certain MEGA EVENT couldn't be recalled by a particular character, and another had to explain it to him. You'd think he would know that.
Also...
SPOILER SPOILER
Carnage doesn't show up till the very end. Anyone who expected a brawl mid book will be disappointed.
END SPOILER
Overall, I give it a 4/5. It got me hooked, and I'm pumped for the next issue.... two months from now. Oh, management. You sadists.
** (.... see, every character's lower jaw could have been confused with Batman's. Go ahead, block out Black Cat's eyes and look at Batman's jaw, then hers. Spooky. (Also, Carnage had a tongue and Cletus had blonde hair. . . nice researching skills, buddy.))
