I gotta say Supertown has been pretty good so far. I loved the WWII flashback stuff with Jay & Alan.

Not sure but it's also the name of the current JSA arc.

I have to say Jake, I'm NOT a fan of the current ark in JSA. Due solely to how out of character the JSA members are being portrayed. The entire JSA would have pitched in to help rebuild without prompting (and certainly without needing to see the S'man lead the way). Alan and Jay coming to blows over the idea of killing a baby. Not to mention the wholesale historical inaccuracies. I mean in this story Jay and Alan are wearing military uniforms into Italian held Libya before America even joined the war to fight Nazi's (who didn't come to the Italians help for another year or so). It seems to me there is an example of a writer who doesn't research anything, very poor.

It seems to me there is an example of a writer who doesn't research anything, very poor. Superman was only seen in one issue and it was pretty much a cameo. The JSA has been handling the bulk of the cleanup and in the last issue former members did indeed arrive to help. As far as the actual historic dates and how they relate with the comic book universe I'm not certain. But being that it appeared to be a black ops mission I can forgive that. Oh well I'll continue to read and enjoy it. I don't read comics for history lessons to be honest.

even the use of the term Black ops (which was coined in the 60's) calls things into question, as it would have been a "commando raid". It's not so much that I'm even against the real world historical inaccuracies, but the actual comic ones. Alan and Jay didn't join the military until mid 1942. In the case of Alan in GL quarterly #4 june of that year

Fair enough. I'm not quite up to snuff on my JSA history so the minor details like that may elude me. I've read the first 3 volumes of Johns' run and I'm currently reading Supertown. I've read a little of JSA over the years but the core trio of Alan Scott, Wildcat & Jay are probably my favorites.

Alright, just picked up issue 46 and I have to say FOR ME, it's not getting any better. The story is solid but the characters are not true to form on the whole.

It's sad to say but if the downhill slide continues I may end up ceasing to collect the JSA too. Considering I've collected the JSA for over 3 decades (the fact that they were back in print in the 90's actually brought me back to comics, though i missed getting a few back issues once i found out) plus many GA back issues or reprints , that's saying something.

Is this declining then? I was starting to think about picking it up when I heard praises about it before, but nothing good lasts forever, right?

it is for an old fanboy like me. Just doesn't feel like the JSA I grew up reading any more. The stories are good but for me they're disrespectful to characters I love. Still give it a try, it may be right up your alley if you don't know or have a love for the way the characters were

it hasn't improved yet but at least after 47 I now have a glimmer of hope. Spoiler (though it is late enough not to matter )
Alan has finally at least transported himself to the moon to try and heal himself (not working so far and looks like it might have made it worse) But !!!! A glimmer.

My favorite JSA member. Stargirl hands down Stargirl is cool, and definitely the pick of the new blood (if you can still call her new after all the additions to the team under Johns). I would say personally you cant (these days ) call it a JSA without her (as well as Alan, Jay and Ted of course - though I'd still like to see Carter/Karter back)

OK just read 49. I'm of 2 minds but wont be giving up just yet. The treatment of Jay is a definite improvement. Alan is back in the fold (even if I hate the look and the way he's able to move) so there's hope for a full recovery. Not too keen on it looking like Alan now ready to kill but I'll give it a chance (for a little longer).

I really hate comments like this dcboards.warnerbros.com/web/thread.jspa?threadID=2000241952&tstart=0&start=45 . Of course they are products of their time, but when a writers career covers over 5 decades and in all eras his work is "of it's time" that is meaningless. When he wrote tales in the 70's and 80's that were set in the 40's and the characterization smacked of the 40's I'd say that's bloody talented. And to say that current writing is just fine when there as as many inconsistencies to character and history as could be possible

If anyone's gotten hold of JSA 50 yet (I'm still waiting for my pathetic LCS to get mine in). can you confirm or deny what I've gleaned from the JSA board on DCU. It seems by comments on there that Guggenhiem has retconned yet another piece of JSA history away. That now the JSA had such disregard for their contry that they continued to operate after th America Vs the JSA story line instead of retire.
If that's true as impossible as I find it to believe I've finally come across a writer who is an even bigger HACK than Winnick.
