For those of us who remember the Clone Saga (ala, those who are not me and have far more right to write this article than I do), do you remember Kaine? Kaine, the badass(or at least, they tried to make him so)? Kaine, the guy who killed Doc Ock(See previous parentheses)? Kaine, the guy with the awful costume?
... okay, I take it back, that's actually kinda kicka--
I digress.
Anyway, Kaine, the 90s clone badass. The darker, twisted clone of Peter Parker - as opposed to the fan-beloved-not-coming-back-ever-sorry-fanboys() Ben Reilly?
I believe he could have made an excellent Venom.
Why, you ask?
... so, you want me to spell this out for you, then? Fine. Jerk.
1- Kaine is a darker version of Peter Parker and Spider-man.
I know this is kind of obvious, but it still stands true, and it stood true, even until his death (SPOILE-- oh wait, too late) in "GRIM HUNT". His life basically sucked, and he was violent and brutal while living it.
Did I mention he killed Doc Ock yet? Pretty sure I did.
2- Kaine had a perfect reason to hate Peter Parker.
The whole "DUDE U RUINED MAH LIEF!!!1!!11!!" approach with Eddie could have worked better if Spider-man actually ruined his life, but lets face it, he didn't. Eddie just blamed Spider-man for his own mistakes. With Kaine? Kaine has every reason to genuinely hate Pete. If it wasn't for Peter, Kaine's wretched existence wouldn't be a possibility! Twisted as it may be, he probably hated Peter for being the reason he's alive. ("GRIM HUNT" and the tie-ins kinda hinted that he ....uh.... hated the mortal plain, so to speak).
3- Kaine had a perfect reason to need the symbiote.
That whole "clone deterioration" thing from Amazing Spider-man recently, anyone know of it? Well, basically, Kaine was falling apart when he returned. He was going to die on his own and it would be slow, painful, and full of suck. Sounds familiar. Sounds almost similar to Eddie Brock having cancer....... which the symbiote was a makeshift cure for. Surely, comic book logic would allow the symbiote to heal Kaine's ailment and make him stronger?
4- Kaine's power set is freaking terrifying, and as Venom.... holy @#%...
The symbiote would no doubt enhance Kaine to make him more of a Oh-GOD-THIS-IS-SO-NOT-FAIR match for Peter Parker (see: every other Venom), but with Kaine's enhanced Spider-sense ability to see in the future, the symbiote could possibly upgrade this to straight up precognition, no random flashes - no, he could just be able to straight up see the future. Also, the "Mark Of Kaine", wherein he touches you and your skin burns? How about the "SLOW ACTING VENOM"(TM) touch, huh? Imagine that. Instead of just getting a wee scar and a quick demise, your face falls off, or you turn into a puddle of goo....
(Pictured: Agonizing death)
5- The symbiote would love this idea.
The symbiote loves Peter Parker. Like, we're talking stalker levels of love here.
"NO, WAIT, STOP, I JUST WANT TO HUG YOU!"
If anyone recalls, Venom faced Ben Reilly in the clone saga (again, I have no right to recall this - I looked it up), and guess what happened? Ben beat him (GASP) but, here's the crucial part, the symbiote tried to leave Eddie for Ben. Why? It was familiar. Ben is Peter Parker, for all intents and purposes. So is Kaine. Wanna know the difference? Kaine's more violent and more dependent on keeping the symbiote (thus, pleasing it). Really, this would be a perfect deal for the symbiote.
Oh well. Such perfect pairings can only appear once in a lifetime (the difference is Mephisto wouldn't steal this one (BA-ZING ).
Just my thoughts.
Now tell me yours. Or else.
