I didn't enjoy the AvP movies, although individually I enjoyed both series.

I just watched Predators last night, which exceeded my expectations fully and completely. I went into it thinking I'd have an alright time. I'm not a HUGE fan of the Predator franchise, but I have read plenty of their comics, played more than one of their games and seen the movies (well, not all of Predator 2, and I always seem to miss the first fifteen minutes of Predator). Instead, I had a total absolute blast. It's merely "good" up until Lawrence Fishbourne's character is introduced, and then every single event following that was as if the movie was directly tapping into the pleasure centres of my brain.
Really, every reference to the original was perfect, the action was great, and while all I could see when Topher Grace was onscreen was Eric Forman, I really liked the acting (especially Adrien Brody and the main female lead, she was great).
It had EVERYTHING I could want in a Predator movie, and more. One word:
Yakuza.

I am more of a Predator film fan... though Aliens was an awesome series too... I am really interested to see where Robert Rodriguez goes with this new Predators film series... I hear there maybe a sequel in the works...

YESSSSSSSS! +1 karma for you, sir! I really want to see the fella who played Hanzo in more movies. More action movies, specifically. The folks on Screened said something that I completely agree with on the subject of Hanzo (the Yakuza) in Predators: There's this Simpsons episode where Marge works with the local mafia to run the pretzel business, and it ends up with a ridiculous gang-war between the mafia and the Yakuza in front of the Simpson home. Everyone's fighting except for one small Yakuza member in a white suit, who's just standing in the middle of the battlefield, until he does something ABSOLUTELY BALLS-CRAZY that you don't get to see that sounds like it kills someone. Hanzo is that guy. He just stands around for most of the movie being kind of cool looking until he does something that is amazing. I could gush about this movie for a while, honestly. The only complaint I can think of is that it was kind of dark at times. S'about it for me, really.

I weep for what those series has become... Predators was great, and they're working on a prequel for Alien (to hopefully redeem the franchise).

After all, he's the man who literally created the franchise (directed Alien).

I'll give it the benefit of the doubt but I'm not getting my hopes up. It seems to much like a cheap money making scheme rather then an actual project.

I think AvP was an attempt at such. Ridley, is more-so attempting to bring redemption back to his franchise. He's a skilled director and I have faith he's dedicated to his project.

I'd love to see what you think about it. ;D of course, one must not allow the most badass alien hunters to ever have lived to go quietly into the night. Even if their survival continues because we're ranting about how terrible their new appearances have been.
