I'm not a big Deadpool fan. I don't normally buy his comics. But we were at the store today and my brother asked me to get it for him, so I did. I was bored, so I read it. And I can say, beyond a shadow of a doubt... That I have entirely mixed feelings about it.
The issue got off to an easy enough start. I wouldn't call it funny, but it wasn't painfully bad either. By the fourth page people were getting shot and, shortly after, having grenades shoved into their mouths. There were a few moments that put a smile on my face, but there were a few more that made me groan, and even some that made me scratch my head. The latter two mostly involved the Secret Avengers appearance in the issue.
Black Widow, Steve Rogers, and Moon Knight just HAPPEN to show up in full costume? Is there REALLY so little for them to do that they can afford to send three of their members to deal with one potential terrorist? And Steve acts as if he has never met Deadpool before. Apparently that whole Civil War thing wasn't very memorable to him. I remember reading once (and this was Cap describing things) that he remembered the face of every soldier he had ever served with. So Deadpool's mask is less than memorable? And then there was the flashback to twenty-five years in Wade's past, where he was watching a news report of Captain America's exloits. It just goes to show how impressive Cap is; I mean, how many people can fight crime while frozen in a block of ice and being presumed KIA?
Other then the blatant raping of continuity and Daniel Way knowing nothing about Steve Roger's character, this is was definitely readable. Carlo Barberi's art suits the story that is being told, and if you have liked Deadpool so far than you will like this installment in the series too.
4 out of 10- Could better, could be worse.
