The World Unity thing.... Oh okay good. Because I was going to go on a long rant about how aliens are coming for us and once they get here, we are fucked Independence Day style only without Will Smith coming in to save our asses.

A lot of Americans feel like "socialist" or "socialism" are curse words, lol. My country enjoys marketing things we're "supposed" to fear. There could be a communist hiding in your neighborhood! There could be a terrorist hiding in your neighborhood! There could be a socialist in your...WHITE HOUSE! /gasp

Party politics is the bane of modern society. From what I've seen in world news it's the same in foreign bureaucracies as it in here in Australia. members of political parties seem to support things simply because it's the party line. It's like none of them have a brain for themselves. Certainly none seem to have the integrity or courage of their convictions to vote purely on their own conscience. It's sad that this is the measure of modern politicians. The greatest Prime Minister (IMHO) that we've ever had in Australia was John Curtin back in WWII. when he became PM he formed a joint parliament. By that I mean that he appointed members of his opposition party in key roles because he firmly believed that he needed to best minds on the job during the time of war. He made all decisions in the national interest including many that were regarded as political suicide (unpopular choices like introducing conscription). It amazed many when he lead his party to the greatest election win with 75% of the seats in the next election. Shame we don't have someone with his balls, conviction, and dedication around today.

I'm so far left I can't even see the right.
(This is actually true, I constantly fail to understand the right wing way of thinking.)

Most of them don't make any sense so not understanding them is perfectly normal.

What do you think the average political leaning of the Ledger is? mostly more left then right. But how much varies a lot from ledgerite to ledgerite. Let's face it for all the fear propagated by right wing extremists about the concept of socialism etc. The best democracies in the world all incorporate a little socialism in their policy (name one working democracy that doesn't have a social welfare system of some type, that's going to last). After all an effective government for the masses by the masses has to cater to all of the masses, including the lower class. Besides which you can never go wrong with acceptance and tolerance can't go astray. Having said that, when you get far enough to the left that communism restrains the basic freedoms of the ideals of both democracy and and socialism you've lost the way. The state should always serve the people not the people serve the state. Obviously I'm moderate left.
