Before Flash became the new Venom, it was clear fans viewed Eddie Brock as the best version of Venom. After all, Gargan wasn't much competition (a total jobber and idiot), and the other hosts were short-lived at best. But now just four issues into his new title, Parker's former bully turned best friend is gaining massive popularity. Fans across the web are debating about which host they enjoyed more for the Venom symbiote. So, Ledgers, who do you prefer as Venom and why?

I suppose I'll kick this off.
Note: I haven't read Venom #3 and #4 yet.
As a huge fan of Eddie Brock as Venom, I actually prefer the concept of Flash Thompson being the new host. Brock's time as Venom has come and gone. We've seen him be the villain, we've seen him as the anti-hero, and we've seen virtually everything in-between. He had an excellent run, but at this point having a Venom who blindly still blames Parker for everything is just tedious and boring. He has no new motivation and that's exactly why I'm glad he has now become Anti-Venom. This gives the character new potential and a new driven agenda, instead of rehashing into one of the many familiar Venom plots we have already seen.
Clearly, I loved Brock as Venom but it was time for something new. Gargan was a stupid brute with simplistic goals and completely unoriginal with the symbiote. And yet again, a man who loathes Spider-Man. But now we have Flash Thompson. A complex character with so many potential dilemmas for us to dive right into. He grew up a relenting bully to Parker, but has always absolutely admired and wanted to be Spider-Man. It's likely that drive helped push him into the arm forces, his pursuit of becoming a hero in his own way. Losing his legs in combat was a tragic blow. We're left with a man who wants to help, but is literally broken and is a recovering alcoholic.
As you know, he's also become great friends with Peter and still looks up to the web-head. But now with the symbiote, he has the chance to fulfill his dreams. He can not only become a hero again, but he can be just like Spider-Man and even more powerful. But how will things go once he discovers the friend he's known his entire life is also the hero he's always wanted to be? And what about the symbiote's harsh feelings towards Parker? And will this power go to Flash's head? If you had the option to be confined to a wheelchair and struggling, or a super-powered hero, which would you pick? And if so, how significant of a role will the bonding play on his personality? These are just a few of the questions and potential conflicts I'm really looking forward to with Flash as the new host. He's a deeper character than the other hosts we have seen, and I really hope he's given the development he deserves.

I pretty much agree with what you said there. Eddie is still my favorite Venom, but his turn is over. Brock isn't quite as cool as Eddie was, but he's still filling the role very nicely. I'm happy with FlashVenom.

I'd say I'm torn right down the middle. I absolutely love Brock as Venom, but Flash has a lot of potential.

Eddie Brock was clearly the best Venom, but I never liked him as a character. Just the whole "one of the strongest, most physically tuned human beings you'll ever meet is actually nothing more than a dimwitted intern journalist" never drew me in.

Well, when I say best I mean personal favorite, not most effective in combat. Unless of course that plays a huge role in being a favorite, lol.

I like the story revolving Flash as Venom a lot more than any of the stories revolving Brock as Venom. I like Brock a lot better as Anti-Venom.

Since K4 already b-e-a-utifully pointed out that Brock's turn has come and gone, I'll just say that yes: Flash Thompson has the potential to be a superior Venom in every single way.
As for Eddie, I love Anti-Venom. I fucking LOVE Anti-Venom. Anyone who reads ASM 663/664 and DOESN'T love Anti-Venom needs to have their head examined (with Mjinoir, repeatedly).
In all seriousness: I could not be more happy with the current symbiote status quo. We have Venom with his own book (and it DOESN'T suck! In fact, it's fucking awesome!), we have Anti-Venom living out the lethal protector stuff that Eddie was best at, we even have other symbiotes returning in a big way - Carnage's book is great (Iron Man isn't jobbing there, he's just not using a big sonic boom clusterfuck for the sake of plot), and Toxin is coming back!
Oh, and Eddie wasn't an intern until "Venom: Dark Origin" came out. That retcon was to blatantly rip off SM3.

Honestly, I thought Daniel Way's Venom was mediocre at best. I preferred him getting mini-series' like Funeral Pyre. He just never struck me as the type of character who you can constantly feature.

Thanks.
I plan on reading 664 this weekend. I'm excited, especially after the beatdown he gave Parker in 663.

Daniel Way's Venom is literally the worst Venom comic ever made. That's saying something. And technically Eddie Brock as Venom is a character who you can't constantly feature, Flash as Venom is more deserving of his own title.

I only read a couple of issues from Way's run, and nothing impressed me. I didn't like the art, and the storylines were sub-par. I'm not a big enough Venom fan to gauge where it stands among the rest of his self-titled issues, though. I haven't read this new Venom series yet, although I saw your vid with ckal on Youtube. I'll give it a try, since Flash has seemingly gotten the thumbs up as Venom unanimously thus far.

It's awesome. xP
