Hello again fellow Ledgerites. I have found the time to do a new article. So without further ado
Twillight of the Gods:
Publisher: Soleil
Type/Genre: Heroic Fantasy/Mythology
Original Language: French
Writer: Jean-Paul Istin
Artists: Gwendal Lemercier and Stambecco
Description: Many centuries of relative order in the nine worlds have passed since Wotan, lord of the Gods, and his kin have defeated and driven back the Jotun from the world. In the darkened depths of Nibleheim, things had been bloody since Creation. The nibelung forever warring between themselves for rulership of their realm and lust for power beyond. Then Alberic, smith and sorcerer of the Nibelung was exiled to Midgard after a coup, driven there by dreams of gold. And there he found the Guardian goddesses three, keepers of the celestial gold of creation. Alberic, repulsed for his ugliness by the goddesses, slew them stealing the sphere. He returned to his realm and with the gold forged a great ring and a helm. With the power of the ring and helm he united Nibleheim and became their first emperor. In Walhalla an impossible bargain spurs Wotan into journeying to Nibleheim and recover the ring. He steals the ring and becomes cursed by Alberic. It is the beginning of the race to Ragnarok. The story of Siegfried, one of the greatest heroes and of a wrathful curse shaking all the worlds
So far the following tomes have been published:
1-Tome 0: Curse of the Ring
2-Tome 1: The wrath of the Nibelungen
3-Tome 2: Siegfried
4-Tome 3: Fafner
5-Tome 4: Brunhilde
6-Tome 5: Kriemhilde
What makes this a good series: Where do I even begin? I love this one. This series has an engrossing story, complex with great characters. All of them are given depth and interesting. The epic scope of this story is surprising, following many intersecting paths leading along a greater narrative. It's a fantastic presentation of germanic mythology and plays well to the theme of the great Wagner opera: the Ring of the Nibelung. Really this is a great starter series for fantasy and mythology fan who want to try on what can be found outside the U.S and is a great way to start with Soleil, whom are really in my top 2 all time favorite comic companies.
The art is beautifully rendered with great attention to landcape but also characters whom all have well made designs and dynamic presentation. Everything works there, no panel is wasted.
Can I even get this in the U.S?: Soleil ships worldwide through Amazon.Fr so you can get in sent to you. Marvel technically has the contract to translate and distribute in the U.S for Soleil. But there output has been very slow and most of the stuff they've been publishing is slow to come out. Recommend that you get it online
Final Verdict:
Art: 4/5
Story: 4/5
