Writer: Paul Cornell Artist: Miguel Sepulveda My experience with these characters is very limited so bear with me if I make a mistake regarding their skills or abilities. Stormwatch #1 kicks off and right away we see that they've got members scattered all over the Earth and even the Moon. One member, The Eminence of Blades is investigating the fact that the moon appears to be threatening the Earth. He confronts en entity under the surface of the Moon that appears in the form of a huge eyeball. In Russia, Martian Manhunter, Jack Hawksmoor (who's wearing a suit without shoes) and the Projectionist are on a recruiting drive. They're attempting to recruit a guy named Apollo, who's apparently in the same powerhouse class as Superman. Their efforts don't get them very far as he flies off. In the Himalayas, Jenny Quantum (referred to as a century baby) & Adam are doing some investigating of their own. They stumble across a huge creature that looks like a giant space worm or something. Back to Russia and the group has caught up to Apollo again. They try talking to him but he responds by attacking j'Onn. J'Onn shows off his shape shifting skills and is determined to get through to Apollo. As tensions begin to calm down we see the arrival of another superhuman who takes down the Stormwatch 3 with relative ease. Midnighter has arrived and he wants Apollo to help him kill all the evil bastards on the planet. Thoughts: This one was definitely wide open for me coming in. I had no idea what to expect and I was pleasantly surprised. Again, I'm not familiar with them whatsoever but that didn't stop me from enjoying this. Cornell does a good job here of giving you just enough on each character to capture the reader's interest. I'll definitely pick this up again. It sort of reminds me of the short lived Justice League Elite series. Great start here for Stormwatch and Paul Cornell. 7.5/10

I wonder which Midnighter would win in a fight.

Are there vast differences in the two?

We can't tell just by seeing 2 pages of DCnU Midnighter. I presume Cornell will devote some time to explain his powers coming next issue.
Classic Midnighter for the win. Trench coat > chin spike.

WTF is with that chin spike? It'll cause more damage to himself than anything. Someone punches his head downwards it'll stick in himself.

Classic Midnighter for the win. Trench coat > chin spike. And that's really all that needs to be said on the matter.

Seriously, is there a single rebooted costume around we can agree is actually better than the original?

I actually like Batman's new armor more.

Animal Man? Even though he basically won't be wearing a costume based on the covers.

I actually like Batman's new armor more. I liked Batman's latest DCU suit better than the DCnU armor.

I can agree on Batman and Animal Man, but since this is a Stormwatch thread, I actually like Jack's new suit and I'm glad my favorite character didn't get shafted on the design front. The added hand treads bother me, but the suit looks nice. I see it less of a redesign and more like he's just trying a new style. If only they could draw him as well as Cully did in the designs I saw before the DCnU comics actually came out, it would be great.

Batman's new suit losses massive points because, when lined up with the rest of the Justice League, it looks like they all went to the same tailor.
