There's a brief "previously on" recap before the episode.

The dude's injury during the beginning felt really out of place, and the church zombies were kind of wtf worthy. But those minor complaints aside, really good first episode. You mean a certain someone's injury on a car door that looked like he clearly severed an artery but a regular bandage fixed him right up? I did not have a problem with the church zombies. Zeds always pull stunts like that where they will sit down and relax. Plus TWD comic established that some zeds just chill and do not roam unless prey draws their attention.

The injury felt forced and just viewing it once, I went "how the fuck did he suffer that bad an injury on that car door?" Maybe it was broken/ripped apart, I didn't see, but it seemed like quite the injury. The objective was obviously just to put him in trouble and have Ninja Redneck Jr save him, but imho the injury was just kind of...odd. And like you said, odd how he recovered quickly from so much blood loss.

That said, talk about an episode absolutely loaded with tension.

Agreed on all points. But it succeeded in making Ninja Redneck Jr seem pretty boss.
I really hope Andrea mans up or dies. I am not sure I want to keep watching her scenes when all she does is whine.

He definitely is. It seems like they're moving past the racist/you killed my brother card...which is nice for viewers, but I can't help but feel like he'd still be holding quite the grudge, ya know?
And yeah, her argument is definitely flawed.

It also seems like Shane will be staying with us for quite some time. By this time in the comics, Shane was a deady.

Comic spoiler!!!
Not sure I want a baby included in this series. Babies never make shows better. Probably why Lori and baby take a shotgun blast in the comics.

I really wish I didn't read that, because odds are that'll happen.

I really wish I didn't read that, because odds are that'll happen. Oh I do not think so. That is way too messed up for TV I think. And overall, this show has a might more positive feel than the comics.

I like the guy they have playing Rick, his disgust over killing even zombies is awesome. I can't wait till later to see how the actor handles various situations in the future.

OK I just watched it. It was pretty good, but not quite as exciting as I was expecting. The preview looks damn awesome though, I'll say that. Couple with a song by Johnny Cash, it was epic.
Andrea is just retarded. I never remember her being like that in the comics at all. It seems like we will see her transform this season into the Andrea we currently know, since they are dropping hints left and right about he with guns, and the preview shows her practice with a scoped rifle.
I wonder if we will see the Dale/Andrea romance. I thought we were going to judging by last season's finale.
Why Shane and/or Rick didn't immediately kill that deer for food at the end, instead letting Carl walk up to it to most likely scare it away, is fucking beyond me.
Seems like they are recreating from the comics the reason why they go to Hershel's farm. Looked like one of the daughters was kissing Darryl in the preview, but I wonder if we will see the Maggie/Glenn romance.
I hope we don't get a baby at all either. Young kinds are bad enough, babies are worse. I agree with erik that we won't see Lori+baby catch shotgun shells, that's too much for cable television.
Yes, so far the show has a more positive feel to it than the comics.
Yes, it does seem like Shane will be with us for a bit. But I imagine he will be that 'Ned Stark' kind of death when he does die. I don't think they want to get rid of the actor, John Bernthal, though. Shane would have died during season 1, if we are going by the comic to tv translation. He never makes it out of the woods.
I thought the injury would lead to T Dawg dying, like passing out from too much blood loss then getting eaten. But they don't have any minorities on the show any more, so imagine he will be with us for a while, unless they pave way for Tyreese or Michonne in season 3.
Andrew Lincoln (Rick Grimes) said Rick gets crazier this season. Looking forward to that. I thought when they laid out the melee weapons on the car, Rick was going to take his trademark hatchet. I was like "Pick up he hatchet Rick!! Do it!!!"

Oh yeah, and it seems that they combined the characters of Donna and Carol from the comics, into one character, Carol in the show.
Donna was the one with the abusive husband, but they had twin boys. Carol had the daughter Sophia. But they definitely went with the Donna look, she is the one with the short hair.
I definitely wish they went with the actual character of Carol instead. She is far better, and has interesting developments when they reach the jail.

I am really hoping that instead of that secret being that Lori is pregnant, it is that everyone (or mostly everyone) is already infected.

Well yeah I wonder that every single time I watch the show. As I'm sure you remember, in the comics, after Shane dies, he comes back as a zombie. But he was never bit. The reason is because everyone is already infected. It's an airborne virus or something.
And yes, I hope Lori never actually becomes pregnant.
Anything else to say to my massive post?

I do not remember Donna being an abused wife. I remember her being the feminist who married that younger guy Allen and she was his whole world. When she died, he shut down completely.
