Writer: Mike Johnson Artist: Stephen Molnar Colorist: John Rauch Letterer: Neil Uyetake Covers: Tim Bradstreet, David Messina Okay, well I wanted to review this book for two reasons: 1) IDW sold out a title in a few hours. 2) It was a really fun and solid read. I know we have quite a few Star Trek fans on here and they'll probably look down their noses at me for this; but my first real interaction with Star Trek was the 2009 film. Aside from potential causing permanent retinal damage from the most powerful and frequent lens flares known to man, it was also a really fun and awesome film. This comic picks up where that left off, essentially drawing direct inspiration from the original TV show and re-imagining them in this new/parallel reality. If that sounds like your cup of tea, then you're in for a bit of a treat. What I liked: Pretty much everything. It's hard to judge the story direction of a first issue. But this was a solid issue and will have me eagerly awaiting all subsequent issues. Which I'm pretty sure is the best a first issue can do. The artwork is great, Molnar has this sort of partially photo-real style. It's clear that all the characters are based off the appearance of the movie actors. It still looks like a comic, but you will find yourself reading the dialog in their voices. It basically feels like an episode of a Star Trek TV series would fit into a short story-arc or events that would take an entire movie might fit into a larger one. What I didn't like: Pretty much nothing. It's Star Trek and to my understanding people rarely agree on what is good or bad in this (alternate) Universe. But if you liked the movie and you like comics (of course you do) then you'll like this. Rating: 5/5

I flipped thru this but didn't realize it was continued from the movie. Nice work Dane, I may give this a look if it's not sold out at my shop.

I'll admit, I'd like the idea of it more if it was based off of one of the tv series' and not the 2009 movie. However, that was a pretty dang good movie, so the comic is probably still good anyway.

Well, that's just it. It continues after the movie but it doesn't deal with any of the events from the movie. The stories for this comic series are based off the adventures the original Entreprise (Shatner) crew had.

I finally read this and it is very good. I like the fact that we're basically seeing the first adventures of the crew in their younger days.
