Writer: JT Krul Artist: Freddie Williams II Captain Atom #1 kicks off and right away he's battling a giant robot in Chicago. Right off the bat we see that he's having problems controlling his abilities and the scientists at the Continuum warn him against the dangers of his powers going unchecked. Atom's advisor, Dr. Megala reveals that the source of his abilities comes from tapping the strong nuclear force. Before Dr. Megala can expand on Atom's problems he's summoned to New York to deal with a natural disaster as an earthquake has struck the area. Story: I would have liked more of an origin story first before they jumped into him having problems with his powers. It wasn't necessarily bad but caring for the character should come first before we can sympathize with him. 3/5 The Art: It's Freddie Williams II and his art is just sloppy and not that great to me. It's not good when the ads in the comic have better art than the actual comic itself. 2/5 Overall:2.5/5 I might give this a second look. I'm still on the fence though.

Cool review. Sorry to hear about the slopping art, the cover looks great. Captain Atom is a cool character but JT Krul seems to screw up a lot of interesting characters

Yeah, much better cover art than the interiors. FWII is not a good artist.

So he has access to nuclear energy now, not quantum? Did they just nerf CA? I mean, Dr. Manhattan has more power than what nuclear provides.

Yeah apparently so. If I want to read about that I'll just stick with Dr Solar. Much better art and far more interesting.
