Written by: Grant Morrison Penciller: Howard Porter Inker: John Dell This trade collects issues #1-4 of the 1997 series. The JLA roster is Batman, Superman, Martian Manhunter, Wonder Woman, Aquaman, Flash (Wally) and Green Lantern (Kyle Rayner). The Story:A group of superhuman aliens called the HYperclan appear on Earth. They begin solving ecological problems like terra forming the Sahara Desert and sowing seeds of mistrust towards the JLA. They also battle metahuman crime including public executions of certain individuals. The world as a whole begins to believe in their methods and the JLA loses public favor throughout the world. However, the Hyperclan aren't who they appear to be. They're actually White Martians masquerading as superhumans. Their plan is to kill the JLA and then rule the Earth. It takes everything the JLA has to turn back these alien intruders and save the planet. 4/5The Art:The art is good for the most part. The artist seems to be more adept at the human form and struggle a little with the faces. All in all it's decent. 3/5Overall:This actually reminded me of the current JL series. There's quite a bit of distrust amongst the League itself. A couple of the relationships Wally/Kyle and Diana/Arthur even border on rivalries. It's a 4 issue arc and at a cover price of only $7.95 well worth the buy. 7/10Up next, JLA American Dreams!

This is one of my most favourite storyarcs ever, really. Definitely not for ckal or erik since Batman practically cleans house, though.

Hahaha, It is indeed awesome. I only wish it was a bit longer but that's a minor complaint.
Batman with prep and a box of matches>>>White Martians.

Isn't beating a bunch of White Martians one of the things Bats is most famous for?

Isn't beating a bunch of White Martians one of the things Bats is most famous for? No. Mostly for saying "I'm BATMAN!"

Shouldn't that be a 7/9?
The only real complaints I have of Morrison's run on the book are:
1) Most of the time, they're fighting villains we've never seen before and we'll never see again. This is more of a personal preference for me because I pick up books for the villains as much as I do the heroes. I love Superman but I won't pick up a book with Superman fighting Doomsday but if Lex is on the cover, I will. So when the Justice League fights unknowns almost the entire time? I sometimes feel like reading something else instead. Again, personal preference and it doesn't really detract from the story once you get into it.
2) Howard Porter struggles a bit, early on. His pencils on Geoff Johns' Flash are quite a bit better than the first trade or two of Morrison's JLA. Still a good artist, this just isn't his best work.
