Annihilators: Earthfall Writers: Dan Abnett & Andy Lanning Artist: Timothy Green Penciller: Tan Huat Features: Beta Ray Bill, Ikon the Spaceknight, Gladiator of the Shi'Ar, Quasar, Ronan the Accuser & Cosmo the Russian cosmonaut spacedog. The Story:The Annihilators are in deep space battling warring factions of the Universal Church of Truth. After Cosmo telepathically scans the mind of their leader he discovers that they have a plan unfolding on Earth. The team then heads to Earth to tackle the source of the problem, an organization on Earth that is a covert group for the Church. The team arrives and immediately begins leveling the place. Their opponents are alien species but their true identities are protected by holograms. However, SWORD (Marvel's agency for alien/extraterrestrials) has alerted the Avengers to the team's presence. The Avengers arrive and find the Annihilators destroying what seems to be a peaceful organization. 3.5/5The Art:It's a little inconsistent. The artist seems to be better at drawing the alien species than he is at drawing the human form. 3/5Thoughts:This is simple but fun. I'm curious to see how the Avengers team even manages to match up with the sheer power of the Annihilators team. I'm also wanting to find out what the Universal Church has going on back home on Earth. 3.5/5

The first issue was way better than the entirety of their first mini.
It was nice to see the characters just go in and smash everything without needing to hold back for some plot reason, and all the characters were much more in character this time around.
The artist Tan Eng Huat is not the right choice for this book.
I thought it was a very fun issue, and I think this is what this type of book should be like. You have some of Marvel's most powerful characters all together on one team, they need to showcase power and smash stuff.
The Avengers should get beat, but DnA obviously tried to even the odds by excluding the Surfer, and in Thor's absence for the Avengers, adding Rulk and the Thing. The Annihilators by all means should unquestionably still prevail (come on, Spidey, Wolverine, and Cap vs these guys? really? come on...), but I can't help but feel that is not what we are going to see. I would love for DnA to surprise me and have the Annihilators beat the Avengers' ass and show them how bad ass and powerful they are, and to stay the hell out of their way. But I won't hold my breath for it.
All I gotta say, is if the Annihilators were the team from The Thanos Imperative (Nova, Silver Surfer, Beta Ray Bill, Gladiator, Quasar, and Ronan), nobody could possibly hope to stop them. I would like to see Cosmo on the team instead of just the control or coordinator, he's a cool character who is actually a beast of a telepath.
Needless to say, I'm really looking forward to the rest of this series (as long as it stays fun and PIS free) as this is my favorite material in comic books.

I dunno. Even though he's not punching out watchers, Rulk is still a heavy hitter, and current Iron Man is no joke. Pairing them with Thing, Ms. Marvel, and Valkyrie along with guys like Wolverine who CAN hurt guys out of his weight class and take shots from them... it shouldn't be all that uneven.

Half of the Annihilators are at least as strong as Rulk and are also sporting mystical/energy abilities. I don't see how the Avengers have 1 single advantage.

I suppose Icon makes up for the 1/2 Iron Man has some energy capabilities, as does Ms. Marvel. So does Ross, he just doesn't use it as much. I don't expect the team to win, but they aren't going to go down without making the Annihilators hurt. What did everyone think of the back up issue? I still can't get in to them. I wasn't a big fan of Rocket Raccoon when he was in GoTG though.

Har Har. I personally don't like Ikon on this team. She needs to GTFO! I thought I remember Thor questioning Rulk that he can no longer absorb others' energy, but I don't remember if it was clear as to that was a yes or no. I'd have to look back at the issue, but I'm too lazy so hopefully someone else can answer that one. Sure, Iron Man and Ms. Marvel are no slouch, but they just aren't in most of these guys' league. Can't wait for Captain America to lay the smack down on Gladiator though LOL (or something similar involving Spider-Man or Wolverine and one of the Annihilators). I didn't read the back up and I didn't read the back up from their first mini. I liked RR and Groot in GotG, but I don't have an interest in them on their own.

He can, but the deal is that if he does it too much, he'll apparently lose the ability to turn back in to Ross. Which isn't THAT bad honestly. But it limits him.
I dunno. Iron Man has already utilized energy from Thor. And now he's in hyper advanced armor that's used in the future. He's on the - dare I say it - bleeding edge x)
I tried reading their back ups, but it was just painful without someone like Warlock or Drax supporting.

I see. That's just like the last arc of Pak's Incredible Hulks, where Red She Hulk was supposed to not be able to turn back into Betty anymore because she turned into Red She Hulk too many times. Must be something with the red...
Not sure which instance you are referring to, but BE IM has been able to use Thor's magical energy and focus and intensify it. But they were working as a team to do this, so I'm not sure how well Tony could, and if he could, utilize that in battle.
Drax is awesome. We need him back, as long as he is the same looking bad ass Drax from Annihilation and GotG.
Oh and Adam Warlock is cool too.

Can't get much more dead then current Warlock and Drax, plus Kronos doesn't have much of a reason to revive Drax till Thanos returns anyhow.

Honestly, I don't remember Drax's fate. Care to refresh my memory?

Warlock is practically the villain of the very mini we are discussing here, so yeah, he'll prove to be alive shortly.
Drax got blown to bits by Thanos.

Drax got blown to bits by Thanos. Oh yes, that's right, The Thanos Imperative. Warlock is the villain? Do you mean by his 'leadership' (when he was still alive) of the Universal Church of Truth?

The Magus is Warlock's future self. And the Magus is going to be the villain of this mini-series.

Right, but the Magus was the leader of the Universal Church of Truth for a while in GotG right?
Do you have a link for that?

Indeed he was.THE MAGUS RETURNS! From the pages of The Thanos Imperative, the evil prophet of the Universal Church of Truth has been reborn! The Magus once sacrificed dozens of worlds to the dark gods of the Cancerverse. Now the Magus has deified himself, with Earth as his pulpit, and mankind as his enslaved congregation! Can the Annihilators and the Avengers work together to stop him, when the Annihilators are prepared to destroy the Earth to save the galaxy? Attachments:

Oh sweet. I wonder if he is going to suck this time around or not. I'm guessing what they mean by "sacrificing dozens of worlds to the Dark Gods of the Cancerverse," they mean initially working for Lord Mar-vell. "Can the Annihilators and the Avengers work together to stop him" Whoops, I guess they team up next issue

Nay, good sir. That's the solicitation for # 3, so we'll get the classic superhero bout in # 2.

#2 has to set up for #3. You don't think it is going to be a classic "WAIT! Wait everyone! We don't need to fight each other! Let's team up!!!!" situation?
I mean I'm all for DnA pulling a few surprises on me here with this situation they set up, because they certainly have the opportunity. I would much welcome it.

I think someone will be reasonable (Quasar, probably) and manage to talk things out with Cap, but not before the teams come to blows for a while.

I can see that as a possibility, but I can also see this:
The two teams fight the entire issue (while Quasar is undoubtedly trying to work things out mid battle) then Magus stops the fight by powerfully revealing himself on the last page of the issue.
