Collects Silent War #1-6
Writer: David Hine
Art: Frazer Irving
The Story:
This arc picks right up after Son of M. That's the arc where Quicksilver steals the Terrigen mists and uses them to give himself abilities again.
In this story, a group of Inhumans are sent to Earth. led by Gorgon they're supposed to stage a non-lethal attack to frighten the US government into returning their Terrigen Crystals. It backfires when a member of the strike team goes too far and kills some people in NYC. The FF stop them and the group is sent to the Pentagon for incarceration & interrogation.
The following story is a very good one. We see the internal struggle among the Inhuman Royal Family and Black Bolt in the proper actions for them to take. When his insane brother Maximus gets involved everything is thrown into complete chaos.
What makes this a good series is every issue is narrated by a specific character important to the plot of the story. These perspectives include Medusa, Maximus, Luna and even the Sentry. All of these inner monologues add a nice touch to each issue. The guest appearances in this book definitely don't take the central focus away from the Inhumans themselves.
Story: 4/5
The Art:
The artist in this story is Frazer Irving. If you're familiar with his work, it's very bizarre and has some gothic qualities as well. He definitely has a style of his own but it goes well with this series.
Art: 3/5
The Bottom Line:
I went into this with zero expectations and came away pleasantly surprised. It's a deeply political story that has a plethora of guest stars. Make no mistake though, the Inhumans' and Black Bolt's inner struggle take center stage. Props to David Hine for a very good story. This is a very good trade.
The Grade: 4/5
