Writer: Scott Snyder Artist: Greg Capullo The Story:The first two issues of this new series are top notch material. Right from the get go, Snyder gets your mind working as he compares the villains of Gotham to the city itself. He's also obviously a fan of the city's rich history as well as two of my favorite supporting characters in the Batman mythos, Alfred and Jim Gordon. His work on the main character, Batman, is just as good. Bruce is at his best here as Batman and himself. We see him heavily involved in his public persona on a couple of fronts. Wayne Enterprises is launching new ventures to improve Gotham and he's also dealing with the Mayoral candidate, Lincoln March on a very personal level. In his Batman guise, he's dealing with a new killer and also working closely with the GCPD & Jim Gordon. The new killer in question is a mystery man to the reader and Bruce himself. He's affiliated with a new group called the Court of Owls. They draw their name from an old Gotham nursery rhyme. We meet one of their operatives and he is a serious BAMF as Bruce soon finds out. The Art:Capullo's style is almost cartoonish. However, it really works and is quite fun in his design. Another little thing I enjoy is Bruce is constantly portrayed in the daytime/bright setting and as Batman he's constantly featured in a night time/dark setting. The Grade:This and Wonder Woman are my 2 favorite books of the DCnU. I am enjoying this series immensely so far and highly recommend it.
9/10 for what is a nearly flawless series so far.
