Reprints SHIELD #1-6 Writer: Jonathan Hickman Artist: Dustin Weaver SHIELD has long been known as the Marvel Universe's premiere organization against crime and terror. However, if you thought it began with Nick Fury then you're sorely mistaken. Since the dawn of human history many famous men have been members of this shadowy organization. Names like Imhotep, Galileo, Leonardo da Vinci and Sir Isaac Newton have been famous for their scientific achievements and ground breaking scientific discoveries. In this volume Jonathan Hickman takes these famous men and turns them into something much more. Behind the scenes all of these men have secretly protected humanity against the gravest of threats such as the Brood, Galactus and even the mightiest of the mighty, the Celestials. Hickman takes us on a journey through Marvel history and it's a damn fun ride. We see Marvel legends such as Nathaniel Richards and Howard Stark along with the famous figures mentioned earlier. They take part in a series of adventures that span from ancient Egypt to the 1950s and into the far flung future. This is simply an amazing tale and what Hickman does with these famous names is nothing short of phenomenal. The art from Weaver is outstanding and just adds the visual goods to a great read. This may have been the best story I've read all year. Best of all, the follow up series is already to the 4th issue and I am eagerly waiting for that trade. 9/10

Well, to be fair they bear the same name but there's not really a connection between the two that I've seen so far. Name only..

Hahaha, seriously. He invents a weapon to take him down. They're not super heroes just a clandestine group that's done some awesome stuff over the years. I really liked it alot.

What is it about earth that makes Galactus always come back to try and eat it?! Aren't there like millions of tasty planets in the Marvel U?

I've always thought it was Earth's prime location. it's like when you're really hungry and want to go to that fancy restaurant across town. But halfway there's a well placed fast food joint and you end up going there instead.

Galileo invented something that beat down Galactus? Either: 1) Galactus hadn't eaten in freakin years and was weak as a kitten 2) Galileo actually had tech knowledge several millenia ahead of his time 3) Time travel, or some other plot device crap like that was involved
