Writer: Jack Harris
Artist: Joe Quesada
Release Date: February 1992
I picked this up at a local antique mall for 50 cents and thought it'd make for a nice comparison with Supreme Marve;'s review on the recently released DCnU book.
The Story:
Ray Terrill is the son of the Golden Age Ray, Happy Terrill. Growing up he was called the Night Boy due to the fact that he was allergic to sunlight. Kept in his home and never exposed to sunlight, his father used this as a ruse to prevent him from accessing his powers. His only friend is his next door neighbor a girl named Jenny.
Ray turns 18 and his father is on his deathbed. His father gives a death bed confession detailing his life as a super hero and his many adventures in the 1940s. Ray's cousin Hank shows up at his father's funeral and later tries to persuade him to use his power as a super hero.
Later, Ray tries to catch up with his childhood friend Jenny. As he approaches the building where she works he sees a group of men attempting to rob the building. Ray uses his powers to destroy their van and save her life. Realizing he has destroyed part of his costume he heads back to a safe location. As he arrives he is shocked by the arrival of a surprise visitor, the Golden Age Ray, his father.
The Art:
Strictly 90s stuff by some guy named Joe Quesada.
The Score:
This is actually pretty good stuff. He definitely has a unique power set and a nice background story. I'm not sure if this is available in trade but I'd be interested in checking it out.
