Writer: Geoff Johns Art: Jim Lee The Story: The team is finally assembled and Darkseid walks the Earth. Things are looking extremely bleak as Darkseid basically one shots the entire team and continues on his way. Flash & Superman recover quickly but Superman is incapacitated by Darkseid's Omega Effect. He's taken captive back on Apokolips. The rest of the team recovers and plans to take off after Darkseid. However, Batman has other plans and uses a very drastic measure to get Green Lantern focused. He then allows himself to be captured so he can rescue Superman. The Good: Darkseid is an awesome villain and is written as being extremely powerful. Its good to see his power levels written properly. The art by Lee is rock solid throughout. The chase scene with Darkseid's Omega Effect and Flash/Superman is a nice visual. The Bad: This series has slowed to a crawl. It's literally taken 5 issues to establish the villain. We also don't have any idea what exactly Dakrseid has planned for Earth or it's citizens. The Grade: 6/10 The story here is an after thought for the art and action. The latter elements have been solid but the story is lacking.

Good review. I was thinking of doing a more in depth review of what's generally wrong with Johns' run on JLA, but I can't seem to sit down long enough. I'll if I can get it up in the next few days.

I think they wanted to use Darkseid as the big bad villain to get new readers in. Personally I would have used henchmen of Darkseid. Characters that can still do damage and gradually build towards Darkseid. Like the way The Great Darkness Saga did it, but subtle hints towards Darkseid. I don't see how this will be resolved in the next issue. Which makes me believe this story will conclude in the JL present. Or in the next year or so.

Thanks. I totally agreed with what you had to say in the other thread regarding Bruce's actions in this one.
