Your God of Awesomeness finally returns from the heavens to once again distribute knowledge of great comics to the mortal masses.
Algernon Woodcock: The Fae Eye
Publisher: Delcourt
Type/Genre: Mystery/occultism/horror
Original language: French
Writer:Mathieu Gallie
Artist:Guillaume Sorel
Description:Algernon Woodcock, an eccentric doctor on his way to take care of a burn victim in 19th century Scotland is forced to stay the night at a small chapel thanks to a snow storm. Curiosity pulls him down a dark path, as what follows is the discovery of another world. The terrifying discovery of the strangeness hidden from human eyes and the dark deeds that can be born from an insane mind. When this trial ends, Algernon's story is only beginning.
This story arc is over and has the following parts:
Tome 1 and Tome 2
note that the story continues in "the Seven Hearts of Arran" (also completed in publishing) and has recently started a new arc "The las Matagot"
What makes this a good Series: It's a unique experience, focusing on the faerie tales and folk legends of Scotland with it's own twist. It features interesting and vivid characters. This isn't your typical fantasy/occult story. This is faerie tale horror, bizarre mysteries and dark foreboding forces. The depth of the emotions and the themes are written in magnificent way. The art itself is unlike anything I've ever read and is simply gorgeous to behold (the covers strangely enough, often do not show the best art pieces of the book at all). I was enthralled by the read and have been since buying every story that follows diligently.
Can I even get this in the U.S?: Yes. Delcourt ships worldwide.
Final Verdict:
Story: 4/5
Art: 4.5/5
